Cindy Abbott, Woman With Rare Vascular Disease, Climbs Mt. Everest

Cindy Abbott has Wegener's granulomatosis, a rare disease that leads to the destruction of blood vessels. For the past two years, CBS News reports, she's been training to climb Mt. Everest. The disease, which has left her blind in one eye, did not slow down her training.

She hopes her success will encourage people to learn more about rare diseases, and contribute to research as part of World Rare Disease Day, which takes place on February 28.

"If I want to climb a mountain or go scuba diving in Iceland, [the disease] is not going to dictate whether I do or not."
