Steve Jobs' Snappiest Quotes From All Things Digital's D8 (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 06/02/10 02:18 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

Steve Jobs spoke for nearly two hours at All Things Digital's D8 conference yesterday evening.

The CEO's perspective is oftentimes gleaned from his terse, pithy email replies to Apple consumers, and Jobs' interview with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher gave him a rare opportunity to speak (and be questioned) at greater length about everything from Apple's relationship to Google and the Foxconn factory (an Apple manufacturer) plagued by suicides, to Apple's recent triumph over Microsoft and Gizmodo's potentially illegal purchase of a prototype iPhone. Even Steve Jobs' sex life came up.

Check out Steve Jobs' best, most memorable quotes from All Things D in the slideshow below. Read more about what Jobs said at the conference here or here.

On Sex (And Google)
1 of 9
Mossberg asked Jobs about his stance on Google: "How's your relationship?" he probed, then later asked "So do you feel betrayed?"

Jobs deflected the question with a curt reply that reportedly got big laughs: "My sex life is pretty good these days, Walt. How's yours?" Jobs later added, "Well they decided to compete with us. We didn't go into the search business."

Macs are for people that dont know much or dont care to know too much about there machines and OS.

PCs are for people who actually know how to operate the ins and outs of a computer from hardware to software.

The average user is alot different these days than from 10 years ago. Most people who use computers these days dont know nearly as much as the majority of users 10 years ago. Hence Apples emergence and Microsoft's loss of market share.

I would disagree with that on a personal level. I use both, switched to apple when 10x was released because of the unix shell and I can safely say I know the ins and outs of the computers. I just prefer apple because (a) all hardware is built to work together rather than an amalgamation of computer hardware frankensteinery, (b) I have yet to have virus or spyware issues with a mac (c) the quartz graphic optimization is by far superior to a PC, (d) the only reason why I know the ins and outs of the computer is because I did use a PC for so long I needed to know. I suppose I learned my lesson in reverse, dealing with the highs and lows for using a PC to not having to worry (at least that much) about my mac. But I do agree, 10 years ago the information/knowledge curve has lowered on current users. However, I would digress from any sharp generalizations about users vs users/pc vs mac.

On topic: which pc manufacturer (whether parts or systems) makes their items in America anyway? I'm betting on not many . . .when was the last time you bought something from Wal-Mart that was made here? Let's look at the big picture . . .

Thank Heavens, because my mom didn't know a thing about the mechanics of macbooks or iPhones yet she was able to enjoy using both before she passed away.
Maybe Apple is so successful because they're the first company to acknowledge that even the nerdiest geeks have plain ordinary parents.

This company (Apple) only survived the 90's because of Microsoft and there investment in the company...

Wow! when did Apple dethrone MS?

News to me! Apple shipped around 3 mil computers in the first quarter of this year. According on Intel (the CPU maker for those that don't know) PC's are shipping at the rate of 1 million per day.

That means in the first 80 days of this year, more PC's have shipped then all iPhones, EVER!

And the iPhone is Apples biggest money maker (or at least how everyone puts it).

If 1 quarter is 90 days, and Apple shipped 3 million computers in that time frame, out of 90 Million computers (remember, Apple is now using Intel chips), Take out a good 4% for linux (sorry, love the idea, but that's probably a inflated number). That leaves MS with only 83,400,000 computers shipped in the first quarter this year.

That's 83 Million vs. 3 Million. And the iPhone/iPad, while they help that number alittle, it's not even close

Winner, MircoSoft.

You do know what a stock is, right? When a company needs cash, instead of going to a bank and getting a true loan, they can sell "shares" of the company, in the same way that governments sell bonds. Saying that Apple is on top for owing more to it's shareholders is abit like saying the US is a great county because of the size of it's National debt.

His snappest quote is "Foxconn is not a sweatshop. It has all the swimming pools, tennis courts and parks."

He did not mention the fact that those Chinese workers are working 12 hours per day and then rotate to 12 hours per night. Forget about the swimming pools and parks, these workers don't even know who is living in the same dorm room.

The hands of Steve Jobs are not just soaked in bl00d, his whole body is spewing out Chinese workers' bl00d so he can make 500% profit on selling the gadgets that he forces the supplier to make for $11.

The suicides are due to depression from either being overworked and under-compensated or toxic chemical exposure.

All for the glorious goal of making 500% profit return for Steve Jobs. This is so sick.

The suicides are due to depression from either being overworked and under-compensated or toxic chemical exposure.

So which one is it?

There are many other factors that could be involved as well. Out side of Apple. Soc.Eco Family factors. Like working and sending all your money home, and it's still not enough but your responsible for an entire family and or even extended family.. You've got to look at the larger picture. Maybe there are other factors .I doubt anyone on the forum, has an inside view and everything we say is pure speculation based on what we've seen and heard in the media.

Also one must ask, of those suicides, how many were in the same social circle? Were their other prevailing factors not looked at? Or variables?

It seems to me, that we cannot simply second guess from here without knowing all possible info. And we don't have all the info, and therefore it's all conjecture. And means nothing.

Will he say why he prefers HTML5? He's bashed Java in 2007, used the same flaky excuses for Flash 3 years later... oh, and unlike Flash you can't turn off HTML5 in your browser... hate ads now? Just wait.

I know what he's said. That's not the same thing as what he prefers, which is something he might not say. And especially with iAds coming out (Google Ads pays their ad developers a greater percentage too...)

(cites Apple's 40% cut on the ads people develop. Ouch. On top of their other policies, Apple's full of worms.)

I came to this page, not to find out Steve Jobs' views on sex (I didn't read beyond the headline), but to loudly and proudly proclaim my indifference to Steve Jobs' views of sex. I mean, come on Huff Post.

Your proud proclaimation has earned HuffPost several cents viewing the ads on this same page. Mission acomplished for HuffPost. :)

Congratulations to Steve Jobs for dethroning Microsoft.

Back around the year 2000, I bought a Mac plus out of nostalgia, and I played Dark Castle on it. I love turning that computer on with that snapping toggle switch and hearing that low-bit beep during boot-up, the ka-chunk of a floppy disk going into it and the sounds of reading and writing, the disk whispering as it spins inside its plastic sleeve. Ahhh... I did tons of pixel art in Mac Paint as well. I've never had a computer more compelling than that first Mac. Maybe I'll buy another one some day.

Dude, I think your unintentionally writing a romance novel for tech geeks.

"I went back to Mac Plus for the nostalgia and couldn't wait for the exotic disk whisperining that would snap my toggle switch. The disk, once floppy, heaved as I inserted it into my C drive!!!"

Each company looks out for itself first.

Not exactly the concept of 'community', but it ensures greater profits. And power.

Don't get dreamy. Each company has its downsides and when they team up, it's not out of selflessness. There are ulterior motives. (IBM + Microsoft and the OS/2 debacle, for example... or how MS leeched DOS...) And Microsoft chiming in with Apple with Flash, MS only cares about making Silverlight a monopoly. When push comes to shove, they don't give a bleep about anyone else.

A pack of rabid wolves are more evolved than today's corporations. (by and large, there are exceptions but they are hardly the norm.)
