I'm really shocked that the leftist environmentalists have not expressed more outrage and disgust. I hate to say it (being pretty enviro-conscious myself) but... I really do think these people would be marching by the thousands in DC if a Republican was in the White House.

Go to prince william sound shore and dig a hole with a shovel a foot or two down. It will pool up with oil. Most any company has ever regained from a spill or leak is 10 to 20% max. That means from the Exxon spill about 9 million barrels still remain in the environment. 20 some years ago and its still there in vast pollution just under the surface.

The most persistent sign of damage I recall as a former resident of Kodiak, also affected by the spill, was the genetic damage to herring, a significant and profitable roe fishery. Stunted and malformed fish - could this be what the Gulf has to look forward to?

I have a question. I haven't been bloggin in several days, but as siblings in the industry, has EXXON, Chevron or anyone else stepped up to help BP in this time of need? I am very aware that they have no responsibility to BP but dont they have a responsibility to their industry to step up and at the very least provide any available advice or equipment for clean up. We used to be a nation of helping ourselves and each other.
If Louisiana has a way to minimize the risk to their shores with a fairly simple building up of earth and sand, why are they waiting for permission from Washington to do it. They have the authority to protect their shores. Figure out who will pay for it later. If it is that important...stop crying and...just do it!

At a time when the economy is in the tank anyway loosing the fishing industry in the gulf for 200 years is not a good sign.

None can agree more than what you have envisaged in your comment. It is obvious that huge spill of oil containing chemical composition in it will affect the seawater first and inevitably, the marine lives and lives on surface including human, animals, forestry and birds. This sufficiently explains the vastness of the devastating effect on Ecology.

The worst is the colossal damage that it causes to Marine lives particularly fish on which human and animal need is tremendously affects and it is needless to explain and emphasis. So too the livelihood of fishermen depends. Thus this type of oil spill not only affects the ecosystem but also survival all living beings etc.

It is a catastrophe in all sense of the term. It is the time when all irrespective of Race religion, cast creed, color and finally Politics rise equal to the situation, face the catastrophe, and bring the situation under control. And ensure that whatever damage is done is done but no more, it must be stopped for the deed that nation can be proud of.

It is undeniable that the catastrophe is a bad sign which will hit hard the Fishing Industry for a long time that will definitely have adverse impact on nations economy however small or big it may.

I'm sure the fishing, wetlands, and tourists along the Gulf Coast will return to normal in another 100, maybe 200 years. Be patient, and we probably won't have another oil spill for maybe 20, 30 years.

This is why the fisherman are getting sick.

http://www.propublica.org/ion/blog/item/In-Gulf-Spill-BP-Using-Dispersants-Banned-in-UK

"The two types of dispersants BP is spraying in the Gulf of Mexico are banned for use [1] on oil spills in the U.K. As EPA-approved products [2], BP has been using them in greater quantities than dispersants have ever been used [3] in the history of U.S. oil spills.

BP is using two products from a line of dispersants called Corexit [4], which EPA data [2] appear to show is more toxic and less effective [5] on South Louisiana crude than other available dispersants, according to Greenwire."

I wish i could find the head of BP saying that the fisherman are only "sick" because of "food poisoning." He should have to go out and plug it himself.

Some for more accountability journalism instread of so much on the scene action.

“The former fisherman, now BP employees whose civil rights have been violated, need to Unionize and stick it to BP.

Better pay, Better health benefits.

MORE POWER TO THE BP CLEANUP EMPLOYEES!

PASS THIS ON,
HAYWARD CAN' T STOP THEIR CONSTITUIONAL RIGHT TO UNIONIZE.

WE NEED TO SUPPORT OUR FELLOW AMERICANS.â€

DIMENSIONS OF THE CATACLYSM

Fishing is certainly a problem. See Worst Case Scenario and other articles at http://www.aesopinstitute.org

The White House needs to establish an emergency Command Post.

This could prove as life threatening to humanity as nuclear war.

Since it is not sudden, it is hard to believe it could be that serious. But, see the Aesop website.

Months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a bomber was completed every 59 minutes.

Kevin Costner has supported development of a remarkable centrifuge that can remove 200,000 gallons of oil from the water every day. These should be manufactured on a 24/7 basis in the largest quantities possible and deployed as they are completed.

For a way to attack the damage to wildlife and marshes resulting from oil spills see: What To Do, on the Aesop website.

Accelerate the birth of breakthrough alternatives. See Moving Beyond Oil and Running on Water on the same website.

A distinguished UPI commentator suggests that $300 per barrel oil may be on the horizon, the response to date is dangerously short sighted!

All of humanity and most life on earth may be at surprisingly great hazard.

"See Moving Beyond Oil and Running on Water on the same website."

Ah! with the hydrino delusion.

The report (TechnicalPresentation021710.pdf) on http://www.american-reporter.com/ is just a lot of rehashed publicity showing spectra results easily explained by crystal field theory. When science is not on your side (you can do a lot of fancy math and hand-jiving but Mother Nature has the last say), appeal to authority and bring out the celebrities: "The company has assembled a formidable board of directors that include a former head of Westinghouse, a top federal nuclear energy official, ..." The American Reporter is another left-wingnut rag. Show us something from, say, National Science Foundation or the American Physical Society.

Garret Moddel from colorado.edu have debunked all this ZPE wet dreams in his paper "Assessment of proposed electromagnetic quantum vacuum energy extraction methods" (xxx.lanl.gov). Unfortunately for himself, who has aUS patent “Quantum vacuum energy extraction,†Patent 7379286, he did not understand the physics of EM surface waves on Casimir tubes; thus his scheme is worthless. After exchanging a couple of emails, Moddel admitted to me that his patent was a mistake. Sensible people becoming silly.

As I said before, I emailed Rowan. The faculty at Rowan were tight-mouthed and referred me to Black Light Power for any discussion. They are backing away from BLP claims that they confirmed hydrinos.

friedfish has again incorrectly stated "Moddel admitted to me that his patent was a mistake". This is simply not true. I advised him of this in a post I made here on 3/17/10, but he persists in making this unfounded statement.

On March 7, 2010, a "William Harris" emailed me with some questions about the ZPE patent. In his email, he misunderstood some basic thermodynamics and quantum localization issues. Nonetheless, I replied politely, explaining the issues briefly and stating that our patent "at this point it is only a proposal and I don't know if it will work, but it might." That is the the only email I sent "exchange" of emails that I had with friedfish.

I did not and do not believe that our patent was a mistake. Stop misquoting me!
-----------
Note: the idea of surface plasmons in Casimir cavities is well known to us and others (see, for example, arXiv:quant-ph/0507005 v1 1 Jul 2005). I assume that friedfish means surface plasmons when he writes surface waves.

So, of the 2 tests, the first one by Rowan shows an NMR peak of an unshielded hydrogen when hydrino is supposed to be shielded. NOT CONFIRMATION. The second test, by a Japanese team (Phys. Lett. A, 2009. 273(35): p. 3109-3112), shows - like the cold fusion experiment of Pons - a burst of heat production, totally compatible with formation of interstitial deuterium clusters. NOT CONFIRMATION.

Black Light Power submitted 4 patent applications in the UK: all 4 applications denied. Black Light Power appealed and lost. Fabrizio Pinto has supposedly 7 patents but most of them are in legal limbo due to the action of Robert Parkof U of Maryland.

His patents follow the paper by D. C. Cole and H. E. Puthoff:
"Extracting Energy and Heat from the Vacuum," Phys. Rev. E, vol 48, p 1562 (1993)
which claimed to show that one can extract energy from zero point fluctuations but all the arguments relate to extracting photon (non-ZPE) energy from non-zero temperature environment. Where they claimed a closed loop operation, as in the common heat engine cycle, in reality the closed loop cannot be achieved without the electromagnetic equivalent of the Maxwell Demon (which Prof. Moddel independently has proven). I actually had a correspondence with one of the 2 authors in the mid-1990's. The author cannot respond to my specific comments and just sent me his life work in a big manila envelop.
