Harry Reid Leads In Nevada Senate Race, Tea Party Candidate Surges In GOP Primary (POLL)

EDITOR'S NOTE: The story below includes references to polling conducted by the firm Research 2000. The reliability and accuracy of Research 2000's polling has since been called into serious question by a report published in June 2010 by a group of statistical analysts.

A Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll released Thursday shows Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) leading all potential GOP challengers in general election match-ups.

Reid is ahead of Tea Party-backed candidate Sharron Angle 43 percent to 37 percent, he leads Republican Sue Lowden 42 percent to 38 percent as well as long-shot GOP challenger Danny Tarkanian 43 percent to 39 percent, according to the Kos/Research 2000 poll.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side Angle is surging ahead in her fight to win the June 8 primary, according to both the Kos poll as well as a new survey from the Suffolk University.

Here are the results from the Kos/Research 2000 poll:

Sharon Angle: 34 %
Sue Lowden: 25 %
Danny Tarkanian: 24 %

The Suffolk poll shows Angle leading with 33 percent of the vote, followed by Tarkanian and Lowden, who trail the Tea Party favorite with 26 percent and 25 percent of the vote, respectively.

DailyKos founder Markos Moulitsas writes of the latest numbers to come out on the Nevada primary:

Ouch... Sue Lowden was riding high, queen of the world against two little-known irrelevant opponents. Then she opened her flap, ranted on and on about chickens, took illegal gifts from her supporters, spent general election money illegally on the primary, and now she's en route to a third-place finish in next week's primary.

Earlier polls from the Las Vegas Review-Journal and Patriot Majority/Public Policy Polling revealed Angle and Lowden to be in a tight match-up in the fight to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in November.

Sharon Angle is a whack job. Anybody who aligns themselves with Scientology is just plain crazy. Sharon Angle cosponsored a bill that would use public money to give massages to prisoners. That's government waste at its worst. Sharon Angle twice voted for pay raises for herself. This disclosure was put out there by fellow Republican Sue Lowden so it must be true. Sharon Angle is a closet Scientologist. Sharon Angle wants to eliminate Social Security. Only one small faction of the Tea Party actually endorses her candidacy. Another faction supported Tarkanian and the General Tea Party doesn't endorse candidates at all.

In Nevada prisoners that have drug addiction receive massages for therapy and you want to complain about the housing problem. Your current Senator Reid received money from the following contributors:

Rita M. Lewis
Phyllis Frias
William T. Walters
AT&T
Laborers International Union
American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees
American Bankers Association
MGM Mirage
Altrica Group - Tobacco - Phillip Morris
Harrah's Entertainment
Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees
International Association of Machinists
American Association of Justice

For those of you who want to know who Reids supporters are in part I would think, since he is a Senator, he gets some of my money and I don't like it.

I do not like Reid at all, but the people running against him are much, much worse.
02:06 PM on 06/07/2010
Good bye Reid......You did so much damage to your state and to this country. How does a person like you sleep well at night ? Either your naive, out of touch with reality or you've been bribed with sufficient future perks that you don't care. It will take decades to repair your mistakes.

Silly to blame Reid! He is our Senior Senator here in Nevada (former CT person) and we plan on keeping him. Under the most trying of circumstances, and at great risk of losing his seat, our Senator helped get through HCR for the people of his state! I say that's one of the many reasons we will vote to keep him! Who in their right mind would vote out a SENIOR Senator in favor of one who will be 100 out of 100...much less one who thinks his constituents needs are more important than his career? Certainly not us! We are very proud of our Senator and all he has done - and continues to do - for us!

Glad to see the latest from the silver state. I’ve had it in for Nevada’s Sue Lowden ever since learning of her outrageous maneuver of shutting down the GOP state convention to keep her faction from losing control to another. I’m so happy to see this harpy plunge Icarus-like into political ignominy.

Liberals believe a poll done by a whacked out left wing site and when reid loses big, they'll all cry about polling system needs an overhaul.

We'll see. I bet that you'll be the one crying.

Not likely. The Kos must think people are stupid enough to absorbe the Subliminal messaging they spout.

A new poll, conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, shows Reid has pulled into a statistical dead heat with his two most likely Republican challengers.

Daily Kos has him leading.

If Angle wins on Tuesday, Reid will be re-elected.

We need representation in Nevada. I know how much the east coast establishment loves our Harry Reid. A lot of people have invested in our senator and have been handsomely rewarded. But there are plenty of sugar daddies in Washington, and Nevadans needs someone to speak up for Nevada.

Just as our senior senator picked up the baton when Senator Kennedy went to his reward, many more stand ready to take Senator Reid's place. Majority leader is a rewarding job but it is the position that makes the man or woman in this case. Our senator's seniority should not be confused with superiority. For example, the honorable Al Franken could just as easily learn to be the majority leader and he is brand new.

Nevada is suffering under depression level unemployment, home foreclosures and business failures. We can't afford to provide the rest of the country with leadership, when we are so desperately in need of representation here. If you really like Harry Reid, then elect him from your state. The Democrat primary race in Nevada has a really good candidate that will concentrate on Nevada's needs.

If we don't replace our senator we should at least remind him who he works for. The best way to do that is a slim margin of victory. If everyone here voted for Alex Miller in the primary (there are two last minute Republican converts in the race), maybe our senator would get the message.

I disagree with you. I live in Vegas. And, yes, while we are indeed suffering, I do believe that Senator Reid is looking out for the best interests of Nevada's people. This man put his seat on the line for the people of Nevada, in the most trying of circumstances, to help get HCR passed - and, for that, many are grateful! Reid is a man who puts the interest of the people ahead of his political career - and it shows in the comments of some here. However, when it gets down to who we want looking out for us - the best answer is our Senior Senator Reid!
10:35 PM on 06/05/2010
fanned & faved, SO very true! Now this is the "take" on what went down, not the version of Harry Reid as blameworthy, unreliable, unresponsive, etc. etc. etc. That man has worked like crazy to make things work in the bigger picture, but, sadly, too many don't get it.
Above all, Nevadans needs to realize: a state funded by gambling, prostitution and (shady) real estate IS NOT FUNCTIONAL. Duh!
10:28 PM on 06/28/2010
He put his seat on the line for his party. If they didn't pass something it would of been worse then passing the trash they did. Funny how he didn't stand up to Obama when he was telling everyone not to go to Vegas. I wonder how many people in Nevada lost their jobs then all the cancellations started rolling in.

Seat on the line for the people that is too funny.

Kos/Research 2000 polls always pad the Democrat numbers, so you have to factor that in to know what the real numbers are.

Yeah, funny how all those "padded numbers" of theirs end up the correct ones, like in '06 and '08. Perhaps reality has Democratic padding?
