Nikki Haley Vows To Resign If Affair Allegations Are Proven True

South Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley, who has become embroiled in a scandal over alleged extramarital affairs in recent weeks, vowed on Thursday that if the claims -- which she denies -- are ever proven true, she would resign from office.

"I have been so clear with this up front, I don't know how more clear I can be. I have been absolutely faithful to my husband for 13 years, no there is nothing," Haley said in an interview with the Columbia radio station WVOC.

Haley added: "It is this kind of South Carolina dirty politics, that has to stop, the people of this state deserve more."

WVOC radio host Keven Cohen asked Haley if she were elected whether she would leave office if the affair allegations are ever proven true.

"If something were to come out that validates the claims against you in terms of stepping out on your husband, on your marriage," Cohen asked, "would you resign as governor?"

"Yes," Haley said.

Cohen followed up: "Yes you would resign?"

"Yes," the GOP contender said.

Wouldn't it be poetic if we found out they have "an arrangement" (swingers, open marriage, he's gay, whatever). So she could be "faithful", and still playing the field. That kind of hypocrisy would not surprise me from a Republican. Of course, even if someone produces the evidence, she'll deny and deflect it.

Saying yes does not mean she is saying she is guilty. She could be proving a point. If she did not have the affairs... there will be no proof ever... therefore the challenge to produce it will never be found.

Who really cares it is just sex , William Jefferson Clinton set the bar that you can commit perjury in front of the entire country and remain in office. Why toss out a politician for being horny, or lying about being horny. Doesn't matter any more than since everyone has sex even Barney Frank and his brothel running loverboy. So if Nikki had an affair god bless her.... not my concern nor is it a concern of anyone else except her family and WJC as he missed out on some prime.

What does matter is that the progressive socialistic radicals in both parties are tossed out, prosecuted and jailed for treason! Enough of the same old same old ......lets try something new unbrideled captialism! Where greed is good and should you not have an ability to earn a living then it sucks to be you as Darwin so appropriately discovered!

The purpose of exposing this nonsense has nothing to do with an obsession about the immorality of sex that those on the left sees. It has everything to do with the left wanting to call out anti-gay, "pro-life," ignorance-only education politicians for their hypocrisy. Essentially - we see them delving routinely into the personal lives and actions of countless Americans, but when the doors are closed, they behave in a contemptible fashion that defies their very political core. It's about accountability, not sexuality.

If I were in her shoes, and I did nothing, I don't think I'd even answer the question, much less the way she did. I would just say, there is no evidence because there is nothing to the allegations, and I'm positive I won't be resigning. The way she answered it raises more suspicions.

I would have found her more credible if she had answered: Since the allegations are completely false, they can't be proven, and so your question is moot.

This way, it sounds more like "if anybody can find the proof here, then I'll go away" suggesting the proof is there but she doesn't think anyone can find it.

Nevertheless, it's more the interviewer's fault for asking a question of the "Have you stopped beating your wife" variety.

I''m used to reading carefully and analyzing the language and constructions used. You see more subtext when you do this. Reading briefly, the way most people do, some will not see any difference, as you did not, but others will find something awry with her answer but not know why.

This wouldn't be an issue if we Americans had a healthier view of sex. We're twisted bunch. We watch O' Really denounce Girl Gone Wild while he shows the video. We demonize and celebrate Paris Hilton for a flash when a simple "cool" would have done. We worry about porn on the internet when we download more porn than anything else. (I heard Utah downloads more than any other state. That would say something.)

I don't care if she or anyone else is having an "affair". It's sex. Not an "affair". So what? It's not your matter, nor mine.

Frankly, I prefer my elected officials getting some, at home or away. I want them loose. Not some up tight, dishonest freak making decisions that affect my life.

The key word here, she will resign if it;s "proven." What's not stated is what standard of evidence would be required to prove the affairs. Must it be "beyond a reasonable doubt" or simply based on a "preponderance of the evidence?" If the latter is the case, there's no reason to vote for her, because it's already reached that standard.

I'm not a Haley advocate, but the reporter asked her a specific question which was framed as you characterize it. She answered the question as asked/framed, you can't attach meaning/innuendo to her by what the reporter asked or didn't ask. I wouldn't have said more than yes or no either given the landscape and the question.

Nuance is an important factor here and everywhere else.

But I have to say that the guys who are trying to cash in are lowlifes for putting this out there...I don't know this woman nor do I support her politics....but these guys have no honor..apparently they were just in it for the sex...I know that women think that most men are swine and this just bears that out....Personally I wouldn't say a word...

OK, I didn't make my point clearly enough and I'm not a resident of S.C. but what I meant to convey is that a gentleman, he!! a real man doesn't kiss & tell..These guys either have an ax to grind or they're in this for the money...So what if she boinked someone on the side....happens all the time..perhaps though if she used her womanly wiles to move up the "ladder" and stepped on these guys in the process, well then I can see grinding the ax...payback is a b!tch...At any rate, I guess I have too much respect for women to do this...He!! I wouldn't do this to my ex and she probably deserves it....

She has indirectly admitted to the affairs. She didn't deny them. She says when we prove it she'll set down. I say cut out the time and expense and don't vote for her. She'll probably go back on her promise to step down, just like all the other Republicans caught with their pants down.

How much denial do you need for her to actually deny them?

She's saying it's not true, they're making it up and there's no evidence because they're making it up.

You can personally disbelieve her, but she she has NEVER admitted to those affairs in anyway and people like you prove that the guys can say any damn thing they want and she'll still be smeared.

I don't support her politics but at least lets be accurate - she categorically denies these accusations.
