Bill Brady Ad: Republican Governors Association Releases 30-Second Spot (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/07/10 04:31 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

With jury selection in the Rod Blagojevich trial wrapping up, the main event in the three-ring corruption circus is about to begin. And Bill Brady, Republican candidate for Illinois governor, is hoping to take full advantage.

The Republican Governors Association has released a new 30-second spot attacking Governor Pat Quinn, and the advertisement puts a strong emphasis on Quinn's ties to his disgraced Democratic predecessor.

Scroll down to watch the ad.

The phrase "Quinn and Blagojevich" is repeated twice in the commercial, and the two mens' faces appear together on screen at one point. The spot begins, "As governors, Quinn and Blagojevich have failed us."

In the commercial, the RGA also blames Quinn for the state's $13 billion budget deficit, and accuses him of wanting to borrow more money and raise taxes to help end the crisis.

The the NationalJournal.com reports that the RGA has already made its presence felt in a number of states. "The group has run ads bashing Dem candidates in FL, CA, MA, NH, OH and CO so far, and with $25M in the bank to start the year, that list will grow," it writes.

In fact, the group has already released a separate ad tying Quinn to Blagojevich more directly. It quotes Pat Quinn, in 2006, saying of Blagojevich, "He's always been a person who's honest and one of integrity... I have confidence the governor does the right thing all the time."

Quinn and Brady are in a heated race for Illinois governor, one in which the Republican has shown consistent leads in the polls.

I'm running a little short of time ,but want to comment on the ads trying to link Gov Quinn to fmr Gov. Blago.
First, The two aren't even in the same political party.
Secondly, I don't think they';ve ever been introduced.
Third, Blago was known for ducking problems , increasing public employee rolls and proposing taxes to fund politically influential construction projects.no one could accuse Gov Quinn of this.Add to this, the city's decline in crime (especially violent) rate and the improved rating for Illinois bonds, and it's obvious why the Smart People would run such a misleading ad.

Illinois is so corrupt. You have Blago, Jackson Jr., Rot Emanuel, Obama, Daley, Tod Stroger, and the Chicago Machine.

I am not convinced Quinn is corrupt but he is completely inept.

He's inept because he's pushing for a tax increase? It's just a philosophical difference of opinion between Pat Quinn and you.

I really think Chicago corruption is greatly overstated. Every time a crooked Chicago politician surfaces, people like you are out there talking up how corrupt the place is. In reality, a lot of southern cities like New Orleans are known to have much more political corruption.

Not making excuses though, there shouldn't be ANY corruption. I just feel like half the people you just mentioned are actually not crooked at all; you just don't like them.

Well, I'm not surprised about a misleading video.

Quinn inherited a bit of a mess, for sure. He's well-educated though, he's held high state positions proving his understanding of the Illinois budget, and even high-profile Republicans like Jim Ryan have acknowledged that Quinn is trying to do the right thing for Illinois.

Meanwhile, Bill Brady is sporting his real estate license and proposing things like "massive cuts across the board" without any regard to the feasibility of his statements.

I agree Pat Quinn isn't perfect, but anyone who knows Illinois politics is well aware that Quinn is better suited to coming up with a real solution to the budget crisis. Plus, I really doubt socially-tolerant Illinois is going to vote for a guy who is literally committed to taking away basic civil rights for gays. That's just not gonna fly. Then there is the whole thing about his plan for massive education cuts, which is really going to strike a nerve with parents.

I live downstate, and he isn't THAT popular, either. I know media outlets like to pretend that's the case, but it's just not the reality. Most people actually don't know him outside of Bloomington.

It's not surprising to see the usual suspects like Ravi out their pushing their LEFT Wing talking points. Obviously, someone feeding at the public trough like Ravi is going to support more government programs and higher taxes and Pat Quinn.

Haha, yep. I love high taxes because I hate my money so much.

It's definitely not because centuries of practice have shown us that laissez-faire economic practices promote monopolies and elite control over what would otherwise be a more democratic system where everyone has some influence over the direction of the country.

It's not "left-wing" to support Keynesian economics, it's centrist. If you want capitalism to work, you have to have state programs.

Welfare, unemployment... these programs are not just "nanny state" nonsense, they are designed to keep as many people involved as possible in the market so that we all benefit.

This Bill Brady guy is as corrupt as the day is long. He's even voted as a state senator on bills intended to help himself financially.

He's worse than Blagojevich and word on the street is he could be indicted soon.

Here's more:

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_st/2010/05/inside-republican-governor-candidate-bill-bradys-business-deals.html

From the article:

"In 2003, the state legislature gave the local government authority to take land for sewers along Curtis Road east of Brady's property. A final vote to enact the law occurred Nov. 4, as Brady was securing options on the land he planned to develop. He voted for it.

Three years later, when the legislature re-authorized the sewer plans, well after Brady began acquiring the land, he again voted in favor of the measure. In 2007, Brady also voted for similar legislation allowing Champaign and other local governments to seize property to build their share of the interchange.

Although the actions would help move the interchange project along, and affect the value of his land, Brady did not recuse himself."

As a Republican in the IL House of Representatives during
Felon George Ryan's Secretary of State lucrative crook days,
I wonder how well Bill Brady knew this fellow Republican?

The IL GOPers are a pretty tight group so I'm guessing he knew
George quite well and was a big help in getting George elected to be Governor.

Hmmmmmm

It's one of the very few things Republicans are good at... skirting the issue and chasing the skirts.
