Brandon Underwood Sexual Assault? Packer Reportedly Under Investigation

Brandon Underwood Sexual Assault

First Posted: 06/07/10 09:35 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:40 PM ET

Green Bay Packers cornerback Brandon Underwood is reportedly under investigation for sexual assault. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, police are looking into whether the defensive back assaulted two women on Saturday morning.

Seven Packers are said to have attended a party at Lake Delton, Wisc., where the incident occurred. It was previously reported that six of the players were cleared of any involvement. A police sergeant says that the seventh player had sexual contact with two women, but it is unclear whether the sex was consensual.

The Journal-Sentinel first reported that Underwood is the Packer under investigation.

Underwood, who is 23, is a second-year cornerback. He attended the University of Cincinnati and was picked in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

The incident in Wisconsin is not the first alleged sexual assault to haunt the NFL this offseason. In March, a woman accused Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of assaulting her at a bar in Georgia. (More details about the case can be found here.) While Roethlisberger was ultimately not charged, he is nonetheless serving a suspension of at least four games as a result of the incident.

So much for the Big Ben treatment of,"Let's not jump to any conclusions & wait until the investigation is complete."

What happened to that? And here the women are already changing their tunes. You folks are pathetic, & your hatred for men of color shows at every turn you take!

Misfire.

What do mean Big Ben’s treatment was let’s not jump to conclusions? Charges were not filed, and the DA held a press conference attacking Big Ben for behavior that wasn’t apparently worthy of criminal charges. That was after the investigation was complete and he had decided not to charge him with anything.

Also, Big Ben was actually suspended by the NFL for buying drinks for women under 21, which he was not charged with. I wouldn’t want Big Ben’s treatment.

Also Eric Foster was accused of rape and was not charged, it was not covered on ESPN, people barely know about, and he is black.

Athletes just need to say no. Go to practice, study your playbooks, and go to bed early! They just need to do nothing but play sports until retirement when they will be allowed out. That, or the NFL needs to provide supervision. What, are we supposed to treat athletes like adults??

Athletes need to learn common sense and avoid scenarios where they're put in the position of either being falsely accused, or making inaccurate assumptions about whether sex is consensual.

Either it was or it wasn't. This wealthy athletes are having "rapey" sex with young women every other day, getting accused and let off the hook. It's as if I'm being taunted, and my blood is simmering, about to boil.

I'm about to lose my temper. I'm not saying anyone is guilty, but they're playing with the boundary between guilt and innocence, probably having a great time.

Where's my money? Where are my hos? I'm about to tackle one of these football players and beat the crap out of them just from jealousy.

Actually the women are in their 30's. This guy is under 25.

The 30 year old women changed their stories and charges won't be filed.

Outrage averted.

The cops should wait a day or two before letting the media know. If there are going to be allegations of rape made against millionaire professional athletes and then dropped routinely, again and again - do us all a favor and don't bother to publish the hearsay.

After hearing about these cases again and again, I'm reminded of my lack of money, lack of a job, lack of drunk women in my bed, lack of money to pay them off if they should make allegations, and lack of media pundits to coddle me as a man-child who deserves another chance to earn the admiration of fans.

The police are not recommending charges. The women have changed their story.

What are women in their 30s doing partying with men in their 20s? And before I get blasted as sexist, I questioned what a 28-year-old Ben Roethlisberger was doing trying to pick up undergraduates.

Big Ben, a grown man over 21, had ever right to be in a bar and pick women. Those women, under the age of 21, should not have been in the bar, drinking, and getting picked up.

He must have paid the police and those women off because women never falsely accuse a man of sexual assault when it didn't happen.

Let's see if the cops mishandle evidence like they did in the case of Ben Rotheslisberger here in Georgia.

What part of Big Ben’s full investigation bothers you?

The fact that the woman refused to cooperating with investigators? The fact that she changed and omitted facts?

Is it because he isn't a poor sap being railroaded by an ambitious prosecutor and represented by an overworked public defender?

oh please! these chicks are just looking for the modern sweepstakes known as the fake-assault windfall. how soon will the accuser be represented by attorney Gloria Allred. Something tells me that a night settlement will make all the "victim's" pain and suffering go all away.

You don't get ESPN? Ben's rehap and statement were big news. This guy? Not a peep.

You probably should like watch ESPN for longer than 5 minutes before posting hyperbolic inaccuracies.

But I did this article at Packers.com which is my home page. This guy is a young player and a back up. Why no major story on it on ESPN. They only have the 'man love" for the "stars".
02:20 PM on 06/07/2010
Whatever happens it will be the end of his career in Green Bay. While this type of conduct is allowed in other major cities, with players having almost free rein covering almost any type of infraction, Green Bay is a small market where the players are held much more accountable for their actions.
02:53 PM on 06/07/2010
He was a back up anyway. I guess the Packers are trying to emulate the Vikings but they did it on land instead of a boat.

they say the same thing here in pittsburgh......but roethliseberger hasn't gone anywhere yet.
now, santonio holmes? different story, but also a different contract situation.

i'm wondering if this is going to be another roethlisberger situation: no charges, but plenty of punishment and public faux-"outrage".

Oh probably not. Goodell was compelled to punish Ben, for whatever reason he made up, because ESPN and sports radio were determined to turn that into a story had he not punished Big Ben.

I remember watching Mike and Mike and listening to Dan Patrick and both were wondering if it would send a message to black players or non QBs in the NFL if Goodell doesn’t severely punish Big Ben.

Yeah let’s float racism and preferential treatment of QBs out there just to ensure Big Ben gets treated fairly.

Overall these guys are young and without any guidance. Money, booze, fame and females are thrown at them just to keep them happy and playing. They need guidance. Almost akin to gladiators.
