Galleria Condominiums Accident: Glass Rains Down From 52nd Floor Of Midtown High-Rise

Glass Rains Down Onto Street From Celebrity Building

A large section of glass fell from the famed midtown Galleria Condominiums Sunday afternoon with such force that many thought a bomb had gone off.

From AP:

No one was injured in the accident at 4:35 p.m. Sunday.

It occurred at 117 East 57th Street in Manhattan.

Fire officials say the glass measured 25 feet by 90 feet. It fell from the 52nd floor and crashed into a glass atrium.

Authorities are looking into whether the accident may have occurred because of high winds.

The glass fell from the apartment right below that of famous magician David Copperfield.

The building has also had its fair share of trouble in the past.

In 1991, Eric Clapton's 4-year-old son Conor fell to his death from the 53rd floor after a window was left open.
