George Huguely Hearing Delayed, New Details About Past Surface

Former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely's hearing in the death of his ex-girlfriend Yeardley Love has been delayed.

The hearing, originally scheduled for June 10, will now take place on Oct. 7.

The Washington Post has more:

Neither Huguely's lawyer, Francis McQ. Lawrence, nor the office of Commonwealth's Attorney Warner D. "Dave" Chapman, both of Charlottesville, would comment on the reason for the change.

As of Tuesday morning, the cause and manner of Love's death remain pending, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond.

Huguely allegedly killed Love May 3 in a violent fight. A judge today ordered that records from the case be unsealed.

A recent Post profile shed light on Huguely's life and childhood, calling him a prodigious drinker with a "mercurial temperament" and the product of an "ugly divorce."

The article also detailed the apparent dissolution of Huguely and Love's relationship:

...One night in February of this year, Huguely's mask slipped. At a celebratory party after back-to-back victories by the men's and women's teams, Huguely jumped on Love and began to choke her, according to an eyewitness. Three current and former lacrosse players from rival University of North Carolina pulled him off Love. One of the UNC men drove Love, who was shaken by the attack, home to suburban Baltimore for a break from Huguely.

Love told some people that she and Huguely were through after the attack. But several acquaintances described seeing them together on campus. They continued to travel in the same social circles, giving some the impression that relations had improved. A few thought they were still dating.

The day of Love's death, Huguely attended a father-son golf outing at Farmington Country Club, reportedly a day of "heavy drinking."

Huguely is being held without bond in a Charlottesville area jail.
