Oil Spill Birds Cooked Alive: Spill Will 'Cook The Birds' (VIDEO)

HORROR: Hot Beached Oil Will 'Literally Cook The Birds' (VIDEO)

NBC's Kerry Sanders walks through one of the worst areas hit by Gulf oil spill on East Grand Terre Island, Louisiana. He examines the extent of the disaster, sinking his boots into the thick substance, and shows why this particular area, which has been there for 5 days without any attempts of clean-up, is so detrimental to the wild birds.

Sanders explains that the beached oil absorbs the heat from the sun and can get to 100-plus degree temperatures. When heated to that extreme level, bird experts say the oil begins to "literally cook the birds" as they get coated in it.
