Glenn Beck Book 'The Overton Window' Trailer: Does It Make You Want To Read The Book? (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/09/10 07:16 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

It's no shock that right wing pundit Glenn Beck would eventually try his hand at writing fiction -- there's certainly a precedent for it. Beck steps into the thriller-writing field on June 15 when his new book, "The Overton Window," debuts. The trailer for the book, released today, features a creepy-sounding poem over text -- the EW blog Shelf Life points out that it's by Rudyard Kipling.

Does this trailer do the trick? Is your interest piqued? Or is this one summer read that you'll plan on skipping?

This certanly maked me want to read this book! How epic! I am a proud American, but if you anti-american name-calling people don't want to read it, don't. We still have the freedom to read what we want. At least for now...

Glenn Beck is right! And you know it.

did you know that most of what we have and use like cell phone and GPS, computers, wireless controllers, all comes from fiction writers like our great painters they see what most are to blind see? let me wake you from your deep dark sleep, the US in deep, deep like no one can see how far we have gone down this rabbit hole. To not be awake, in this time of crossing this lake of blood is like being blind to LA quacks. But stay in your sleep don't see the truth, not now or when it all comes a part in the end. Give us all a break, and don't cry to us. Take your kids and your pain and walked down that road to the next house when you need help for you couldn’t see the writing on the walls. Beck goes over the wall some times and his crying it backs me off but I understand people that have ADHD, like people that like you are blind. But he isn’t wrong on many points and that should make many think about what he is saying. Men like Geraldo and the guys on countdown and hardball is so in bed with the ones we need to be watching, be it the Dem’s or the GOP. Its us against them not we play for the King till he makes us all slaves for this is the good old USA.

If your officer's dead and the sergeants look white,
Remember it's ruin to run from a fight:
So take open order, lie down, and sit tight,
And wait for supports like a soldier.
Wait, wait, wait like a soldier . . .

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.

I'll probably read the book eventually, but like if it is either a gift or from the library.

At least he stuck with what he knows. Fiction. Its his daily routine, now he put some of it to paper. They may be memories of the DTs but he put it to pen.. Thats the kind of artist Glenn is. I bet it took great restraint for him not to include the names of Democrats while he was making up this story. I wonder if he put a lot of pictures in it to color so.most of his regular fans can enjoy it. He could include a crayon so they can help Glenn complete the book. That would make them feel special.

Kipling rocks and since I agree with Beck about 90% of the time I'll definitely be buying the book...probably a couple of them to give as gifts too.

Well Huffies, are you embarrassesd? The trailer you bashed yesterday the one from the Overton Window, the poem you thought it trash. I am sure you know that poem was written by Rudyard Kipling. Oh-who is the dummy now?

Quoting Kipling does not a worthwhile book make. They've used Walt Whitman to sell Levi's jeans: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAXpJSvW5mA&feature=player_embedded
06:31 PM on 06/10/2010
So I guess your point is that Levi Jeans aren't good?! I'm sorry - I don't see the logic behind your statement.

Oh, wait, I think your point is that Walt Whitman didn't make Levi jeans good, that they were good on their own merit - so you're saying Kipling doesn't make Beck good, but that Beck is good on his own merits?!
10:28 PM on 06/10/2010
That is not the issue. The people who maligned Beck because he wrote a rotten poem had no idea who wrote the poem. Thus, showed their ignorance.

I am not a Glenn Beck fan but I have never let personalities deter me from a good read. Whoever did the trailer is a master. Count me in for this one.

The poem, used without proper attribution, is Rudyard Kipling's "The Gods of the Copybook Headings." It is an interesting commentary on capitalism and socialism. You can read it free on the Internet. About the book? Well, I really am too busy for fiction.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back into bookstores and libraries along comes the biggest PUTZ in the entire FOX News hen house. "THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING", fine as long as it lands on Beck, all is well.
10:14 PM on 06/10/2010
Reginald,

Serious question: Please explain to everyone what exactly that Beck does that is so wrong.

The vast majority of his info is accurate and easily verifiable, so it can't be that he's lying, so what is he doing wrong?
11:54 PM on 06/10/2010
I think I hear crickets chirping...breaking the background silence. "Where has everyone gone?"

You'd think after two hours SOMEONE would have jumped right in with at least one of the millions and gazillions of mis-representations or falsehoods by Glenn Beck...hmm, maybe not? How many hours could it possibly take to find something which is purportedly overflowing with abundance?
02:23 AM on 06/11/2010
Four hours, and still not a single try? I'm beginning to be more than a little surprised. Is there no one who will backup his or her own statements about Glenn Beck's accuracy?! This is really odd to me.

That Kipling. He sure can turn a phrase. I've known several writers. None of whom remind me of Glen Beck.

I wish Kipling had a radio show.

I love the post that refutes Beck's claims....MediaMatters.org...haha...So let me get this straight the people who he calls out are saying it isn't true....Unbelievable. Those of you who hate Beck do not watch the show and have no idea what he is about. Sorry but somebody has to do the job that your "legitimate" news sources (CBS, NBC, SBC, MSNBC, etc..) won't do. There are two ideas out there, the people that think that we don't need the governement to do absolutely everything in our lives and those that think they know better than you and think that it should. Plain and simple. Bill Mahr summed it up well the other night, basically "stop all drilling, tax the shit out of oil and damn the people who work in that industry, damn your jobs, we know better, you're stupid rednecks" (I wish I was exaggerating). I'm sorry, but if California wants to do that, fine. If you want to tax your gas to the point where you can't afford it fine. Walk to work, effectively raise the price of everything you purchase. Go ahead, and continue to go bankrupt while you pay for millions of illegals and kill business while saving the delta smelt. We will not continue to pay for it. The reason the constitution limited the Federal Government was to prevent people from one state, or in our case a few states, from governing the rest of the country. One Word..NOVEMBER.

Common Sense is Not So Common Anymore

I might agree with most of what you have to say, as it appears you make an effort to defend Beck to some degree and might have some conservative thoughts to offer.

However, if you continue to write like this I am likely to skip your comments, because this one is extremely difficult to read.

In the future, please consider structuring your comments in a more reader-friendly manner, perhaps breaking up your thoughts into paragraphs containing a sentence or two each, rather than offering such an incoherent and incomprehensible run-on statement.

Thank you very much!
11:02 AM on 06/11/2010
I'll make sure and break my comments out into proper paragraph form for you the next time. Was in a hurry to get it in before I headed to a meeting yesterday and didn't have much time to review.
06:10 PM on 06/11/2010
Are you serious ??? This is my first time on this post and I want to know the rules. Is there some type of authority on this site, as yourself, whom monitor grammer, punctuation and spelling? or is this person who responded to you just a polite and professional person ? I am confused.

I mean, if there is some type of grammer rules, I don't understand. You are critiquing one's post when your post is boken into paragraph's that are actually only one very long sentence broken up with comma's. Actually, the comma's arn't placed properly either. Atleast not the way I was taught at college this year.

I am confused, Do those little circles by your names mean something? Are you the "Post Czar" or something ?? or are you just being a jerk and pretending you are smarter than this person ? I am terrible with grammar and would never attack another person's ability. Unless, like I said, you are one who monitors other's grammer so that the post look's professional. Otherwise, that is a personal attack and "M Cubed" is either biased or missed pointing out this one.

If you could please explain how this works here, I would greatly appreciate it. I feel very uncomfortable writing if I need to meet certain criteria in order to post something or if I am going to be subject to review. I will just spend my time, thought's and energy elsewhere. Where they understand incoherent and incomprehensible run-on's.

Thank

Darn right I'll buy this book for several reasons:
1 - Anything that starts out using Rudyard Kipling I'll read
2 - While I don't agree will everything the Mr. Beck says, I do agree with some of it and I defend his absolute right to say it...same as I do for the far Left individuals inhabiting this site.
3 - Any book that this many liberals hate I have to buy and make sure I read at a local Starbucks.
4 - I'll buy it to tick off my sister-in-law, one of the most liberal, far left people out there.

BTW, love the comments below from individuals who most likely absolutely defend a persons right to immerse a crucifix in a bottle of urine and call it art, yet slam anything that the personally don't like. Gotta just love hypocrisy.
