Google Background Image: How To Remove And Add Images On Google.com (PICTURES)

Google Background Image

Impressed by the background image on Google.com today?

Thanks to a new feature from Google, you can choose your own!

Last week, Google debuted a tool that enables you to put a background image of your choice on Google.com in place of Google's bland white background.

Here's how to add your own image:

Click "Add a background image and make Google your own" (under the search box).

Log in to Google and select a background image (from a public Picasa gallery, your Picasa album, your computer, or 'Editor's Picks')

And you're all set! To remove the image, click "Remove background image," located on the bottom left-hand side of Google.com

Information Week reports that, according to an email from Google, customizing Google.com with a background image will not slow the search engine's load time.

The "wallpaper Google" feature will let users make Google.com look more like how they'd like it to appear--but it will also make Google look more like Bing, Microsoft's rival search engine, which features a new background image every day.

Will you change your background? Why or why not?

I like to keep my Google simple but did use http://www.gazoomy.com/ for a while which is a really cool alternative to Google's background wallpaper. It's a lot slicker with transparency, a moveable search bar, and a search results page that updates on the fly. It's very very good if you like that bling... I mean Bing... kind of thing. Google should be kept clean, simple, and functional as far as I'm concerned.

you can also use an addon called greasemonkey (if you have firefox/chrome) that removes the sidebar!

No, I'm not impressed. This feature can die in a fire.

There is no way to remove it. The only option right now is to use the https beta @ https://www.google.com

For the love of God, STOP IT! If this retina bashing doesn't stop, I'm taking my home page elsewhere. PLEASE, Google, make this an "opt-in" feature ONLY, and not a giant, grammar-school refrigerator art project. When I go to Google to search, my mind is set to the thing I am seeking. Bashing my eyes with a giant brass frog IS NOT HELPFUL or "FUN"!

Totally agree, there pulling another Buzz here...I thought they learned their lesson.

From Google:

"Please be assured these images will only be displayed today, and the homepage will return to its regular white background tomorrow."

There should be a 'no background image' option. The reason many people set their home pages to google is because it loads quickly and cleanly. Every so often we'd get the cute change in the logo, but this is too much. AND it's irritating that there is no option to not load anything. Guess its time to look for another home page/search engine.

Exactly. And if you're a Neanderthal who still uses dial-up, loading a background image is slow slow slow.

NO, I'm not impressed, I'm sick to my stomach. Remove this horrible BS.

This is a really lame move by the goog. It's very un-googly. Users have no real way to change the background. Using a white image is sort of an option, but then you need to live with shadowed text. One could go to the SSL site (HTTPS://www.google.com).

I say to google: be google, not bing.
