Bleacher Report:

Its an issue cause, you as a coach, let them sporting agents free access to the student athlete. You as a coach were suppose to guard the athletes from falling into the hands of the "sharks", but you chose to look the other way. Typical of a coach whose ego is inflated beyond your headsize. If you were as good a coach as you say you are, you would have taken a mid major program an turn it in to a national power. But ,you chose USC, who already has a talent pool loaded, any coach could win with USC, its a matter of what the coach does with the talent. You had given agents free reign to contact the athletes when you could of brought it up with the school administrators an the NCAA infractions board. But no you didn't, you chose to look a way!

Gratifying to see how many folks can see right through Carroll in this matter. Can you please bring your keen perception over to the political threads - your country needs you...

btw, people who are not lying or hiding something state things in plain english. they nail it down and make sure that there are no "escape hatches" in their public statements, because they don't fear the subpoena...e.g., "i am actively aware of the activities of my players, all of my players. i state without any hesitation or equivocation, that i had no conversations, knowledge, suspicions, or part of any wrongdoing on the part of reggie bush or anyone on my team. i alone take any and all responsibility for the results of any investigation which discovers any information to the contrary which supports that either i or one of my players committed an illegal act about which i knew or should have known.

it annoys me when people "don't lie" by manipulating their statements, thinking that we all must have been USC grads: He articulates over and over that neither he, nor the university, had any knowledge of the findings of the NCAA

for the record, pete, not having any knowledge of the findings of the ncaa is NOT the same as not having knowledge of what the ncaa found. OF COURSE, you wouldn't know what the ncaa found, until it was published, as you were not part of the investigation. on the other hand, you knew full well about that which they did find. to say that they found it and you didn't know about it is an embarrassment to the university that paid you so much freacking cash.

i have to say, i see garrett on a regular basis shopping, walking, etc., with his kids, not so much the wife any longer, and he doesn't appear to be nearly as ecstatic as he was when the sc football program was on top of the world. he is NOT a happy camper. one would think that with all of his money (assuming that pete didn't get all of it) and will all of this drama, he could pay someone to do the local grocery shopping.

Hey Pete, thanks for your 'deer in headlights' youtube video. It was very, very (very) heartfelt. Now click off the camera and get back to your vacation with John Calipari. You two have some "career plotting" strategies to figure out.

I'm sure Carroll is as genuinely shocked to find out about these sanctions as LaRussa was to find out about McGwire's roiding.

Will Pete Carroll have any success in the NFL if he can no longer cheat like he did at USC? Maybe he should ask Bill Belichek for some pointers.

Pete Carroll knew what was coming. That's why he jumped back to the NFL where he's remember as a mediocre head coach at best.

So no one at The University of Scandal and Corruption saw anythingm heard anything, yet the football practice sidelines were loaded with recruits standing side-by-side with agents, movie stars, rappers, et al. Next, Carroll and Garrett will co-author a book, "We Never Saw Athletes Getting Paid, but If They Did, This Is How Much They Got."

Despite his empty and self-serving denials, Pete Carroll will now join the pantheon of dirty NCAA coaches. But of course everyone worshiped him when sc was the toast of the Pac 10 and the alum, TV contract and bowl money was flooding in. IMO, the obscene amounts of money generated by a few athletic departments in the big conferences has created a perversion of the very missions of these schools. And there are hundreds of other schools who have the same ambitions. Kind of reminds me of our political system - drunk on money and reeling off course.

Why did it take the NCAA 4 years to make this ruling, after culprits are long gone?

How many times have we seen this; a coach makes his escape just in a nick of time, then he denies any wrongdoing. What a copou, Pete. Be a man, take responsibility, you were the guy in charge. Now you leave Lane Kiffin with a lot of garbage you failed to clean up.
