Yahoo! And (RED) Team Up For Penalty Shootout Game, Raise Money For AIDS Programs

In honor of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Yahoo! and (RED) are teaming up to give soccer fans around the world a way to make a difference in the effort to eliminate AIDS. On Friday, June 11, Yahoo! and (RED) are hosting a day-long online fundraiser for AIDS programs in Africa with the online game Penalty Shootout.

Players can shoot online goals and invite friends to play with them. There is no limit to the amount of goals individual players are allowed to score.

For each goal scored, Yahoo! will donate $1 to The Global Fund, the international disease-fighting organization backed by (RED). Up to $100,000 will be donated.

The Global Fund saves millions of lives in Africa through HIV testing, antiretroviral treatments, health care for AIDS orphans and HIV-positive pregnant women, and other programs.

After the June 11 fundraiser, players can continue to play Penalty Shootout throughout the World Cup for a chance to win a trip to Rio de Janeiro to compete in a real-life shootout with pro goalie David Seaman. The shootout winner will receive a Yahoo! Sports Pass, giving them free tickets to four sporting events each year for the next four years.
