Man Shot In Mouth Spits Out Tooth...And Bullet

A man who was shot in his mouth on the South Side Monday morning was apparently saved by his tooth--which he spit out along with a bullet.

Just before 5 a.m., a 39-year-old man was walking down the street in the 7300 block of South Calumet Avenue when he realized he had been shot, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The bullet knocked a tooth out, but did not penetrate the man's mouth and he was able to spit the it out, police told the paper.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the man was taken to Jackson Park Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

No one was in custody for the shooting Monday afternoon.
