Aretha Franklin Repeats Dress Two Nights In A Row, Changes Wig (PHOTOS, POLL)

First Posted: 06/15/10 04:22 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:45 PM ET

Aretha Franklin's dress was apparently so nice she wore it twice. The legendary songstress walked the red carpet at the Tony Awards on Sunday night in a glittery gold ensemble with a blond wig. Then the next night she arrived at the Apollo Theater Awards in the same dress, same boa, same necklace...but behold! She switched to a curly wig with red roots. Do you think the dress warrants a repeat? Have your say below.

Quick Poll

That dress is...

so nice it SHOULD be worn twice. As in two nights in a row.

nice enough to wear twice but not two nights in a row.

so ugly it should be burned.

She looked better in the top picture her makeup was flawless. The second picture makeup looked badly applied--I didn't mind the same dress just sing, "Pink Cadillac" and I'll forgive ya anything, lol

Aretha's voice is Pure Gold -
But she has NEVER had any fashion sense, no matter how young or what size she was.

It's just part of loving Aretha. Marvel at the voice, SHM at "What the He// " she's got on....

If Re loses the weight, she will sing better. Her voice is terrible.

I would just like to point out that Aretha Franklin is 68. Not only is she still incredibly active, but she look fabulous, and she's most definitely fat.

Thank you, Aretha, for defying the haters, the stereotypers and the nitpicking media and showing the world what fat and fabulous means.

Peace,
Shannon

The law of thermodynamics would suggest that her activity level isn't matching up to her caloric intake at any reasonable rate of speed. I'm not suggesting she "needs" to lose weight, as that's obviously her decision and it's her right to pursue what makes her happy, but I can't understand how she could be perceived as "incredibly active" unless you mean mentally/professionally active?

Zoey, HuffPo ate my long response to you and I don't have the time to repeat it.

I meant professionally active and the law of thermodynamics does apply to metabolism, but there are so many factors involved that Calories In/Calories Out does not account for the entire energy balance. Genetics plays a role in 50-90% of a person's weight.

Peace,
Shannon

In Aretha's case, "fat and fabulous" means obesity, and the multitude of health problems that go along with it. Not to mention premature death (obesity-related illnesses = #1 or 2 cause).

I saw her in concert a few years back, and I could tell from my seat she was out of breath simply walking across the stage. When she eventually caught her breath, she began to sing. Also obvious: she didn't have the stamina to give a full concert. "Embracing Curves" is cool, but to a point.

Looks like The Queen has lost weight, and good for her. She should be at the appropriate weight range for her body type so can enjoy her voice for years to come. She's a national treasure.

Wishing Re all the HEALTH and happiness in the world

You should take your ability to diagnose people from afar and open a little medical practice.

The multitude of health problems you mention are a result of lifestyle choices, not weight. You do not know what her lifestyle choices are, therefore you do not know the status of her health.

As far as seeing her in concert, I've seen Aretha on TV walking across a stage. I've never seen her look out of breath. I'm guessing your assessment has more to do with your assumptions about fat people than about Aretha's actual health.

And finally, obesity-related illnesses ranks eighth for preventable premature death. Not first or second (as reported by the CDC before they had to retract their mortality statistics for a "computer error").

Peace,
Shannon

This is Aretha

The Queen of Soul

and yet someone has nothing better to do remember what clothes she wore.

Whoever is noticing such things would be better off going to high school musical reunions

Yes, her singing is what matters--and that's good because she has zero fashion sense.

I have been a fan of Aretha Franklin’s music since the late 60’s. I love her music. However, with only a few exceptions (inaugural), she has not dressed in a flattering manner to me. She is not known for her sense of style. It is painful to watch most of her appearances in recent years as her breast are usually overexposed, the weight is an obvious problem, she doesn’t look happy and is overly made-up. Truly, Aretha could benefit from an honest stylist. There have been generations of obese women singers from Ella Fitzgerald to Mahalia Jackson to Angie Stone and Jill Scott, but these women managed to dress in a becoming manner. Aretha’s appearances are a distraction from her talent. With all that said, she continues to be the “Queen of Soul”, all Hail the Queen!
