Sharron Angle plans to lunch on Tuesday with the group of Republican senators whom she hopes to join next year. To mark the occasion, the Nevada Democratic Party has crafted a brief introduction for her home-state colleague John Ensign to deliver.
"In order to avoid another debacle like the usually-safe Fox & Friends interview, and because we suspect Sen. Ensign and his staff are very busy responding to 'other' types of requests, Nevada State Democratic Party has taken the liberty of preparing Sen. Ensign's talking points for his introduction of Sharron Angle," offers the party.
The "other types of requests" is a reference to an ongoing Justice Department probe, as well as a Senate ethics committee investigation, looking into Ensign's role in covering up an affair with a former employee, whose husband also worked for him.
Angle is hoping to unseat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada. Democrats are hoping that Angle's history of politically eccentric positions and her connection to the fallen Ensign will be enough to drag her down.

[Look Sincere] First of all, Sharron, thank you for backing off what I call 'the wife thing' and enlisting my support for your campaign. Last November, while other Republican candidates were being kind of squishy, she nailed me between the eyes with the zinger: "If your wife can't trust you, how can I trust you?" I'm glad she's come around and is now welcoming my support.
I also want to thank Sharron for having the courage to speak openly about what she truly believes in, like eliminating Social Security and Medicare, abolishing the Department of Education and the Department of Energy, and totally deregulating Wall Street and Big Oil. In fact, while we're at it Sharron, how about we add the Department of Justice to that list of agencies on the chopping block? (Those pesky federal prosecutors are cramping my style.) [Big Smile]
Also, isn't it great to have another "keeper" in the house today?! As you all know, I am a very proud member of a group called the "Promise Keepers." Meanwhile, Sharron identifies herself an "Oath Keeper" - an excellent group of patriots Sharron's met with and courted, even though those pesky folks at Southern Poverty Law Center say they are a crazy militia outfit.
On a personal note, I'd like to express my sympathies for Sharron and some of the heat she's been taking on this campaign over one specific issue: prisoner massages. As someone that stands to soon benefit from Sharron's Scientology-based massage-and-sauna treatment plans, I believe this issue has been blown way out of proportion, and I encourage her to pursue her plan with vigor at the federal level. I'd also like to applaud Sharron's stance on working families their role in the overall economy... for those who don't know, Sharron has said it is wrong and unacceptable for society at large to have two-parent homes where both parents work. I could not agree more with this statement - unless of course they both work for me. [Wink]
Now to be clear, there are a couple of issues we disagree on, so I'd like to give Sharron some friendly advice and let folks know these issues won't prevent me from enthusiastically supporting her campaign. A lot has been made of Sharron saying alcohol shouldn't be legal, and I have said and done a lot of stupid things over the years, but even I can't fathom saying I want to represent Las Vegas and the state of Nevada while taking such a position.
Sharron also said people who clean bathrooms, sweep floors, make beds and do laundry are doing jobs Americans won't do. As someone who used to work in the casino industry, I gotta say there are plenty of Nevadans - thousands in fact - who do those jobs in Nevada. (A lot of them vote, too, so you might want to lay off that talking point, Sharron.). Finally Sharron, you criticized Sen. Reid for calling banks to save those 22,000 jobs at CityCenter. I tried to make a couple of those calls myself, and I didn't see anything wrong with that. But this is America, and we're all allowed our own opinions. Moving forward though, I'd lay off the attacks on Sen. Reid's efforts that are creating real jobs for Nevadans in this tough economy. And with that my fellow Republicans, I'd like to introduce to you a person that I hope will be Nevada's next US Senator, who I'm sure will be able to deliver consistently for Nevadans - even though she'll have even less seniority and clout than me.
