Former Vice President
Al Gore had no qualms with Obama's speech. He said, "I applaud President Obama's call for a comprehensive legislative solution to the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico." Gore continued by saying we need to "fundamentally change how we power our economy" in order to prevent a disaster like this from recurring.
Former Secretary of Labor
Robert Reich called out Obama's speech as "vapid" and said that he "failed tonight to rise to the occasion."
House Majority Leader
Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) appreciated the President's focus on the disaster but said, "The public needs additional assurance that, all aspects of the spill response, from cleanup to claims, are being enforced and coordinated by the federal government."
Rep.
John Dingell (D-Mi.) was upset about the amount of profits oil companies including BP make and said, "I was disappointed President Obama did not call for an increase in the liability cap."
