'Hot In Cleveland' Ratings Sizzle: #1 Show On Cable Wednesday

NEW YORK — TV Land's comedy "Hot in Cleveland" has shown real ratings heat in its premiere, emerging as Wednesday's most-watched show on cable.

The Nielsen Co. said Thursday that the episode's first airing attracted nearly 5 million viewers, with 2.4 million viewers tuning to its encore broadcast immediately afterward.

The much-publicized new series stars 88-year-old Betty White along with fellow sitcom veterans Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick (MA' lihk).

I loved this show and the best part these are beautiful older women who are aging graciously. Not like the botoxed babes on Cougar Town.

The show was terrible. Why are they bringing back laugh tracks? This show and 100 questions both use them because they generate real laughs.

The 3 women (valerie, Jane, Wendie) are not stars. They work best as supporting characters and are not funny enough to carry anything on their own, yet here's another hackneyed show trying to change that.

Betty is great, but her lines weren't.

When Miss Betty hosted SNL, I didn't get to see the entire show. I saw it this Saturday night and most of the skits she was in were very good. Her "good night" part was one of the funniest things I've seen her do!!

I've been a big Betty White fan long before this latest craze, but I think this show looks terrible.

I'll stick to re-watching her guest appearances on Boston Legal.

nothing beats her Sue Ann Niven's character. I loved the one when they showed her bedroom ,
round bed that vibrates with a mirrored ceiling. She was and always has been so funny.

Sorry that was on the Mary Tyler Moore show.

lol Nielsen can only track 10,000 homes... they can't tell who watches what except the 10,000 tv participatingj. How you think the false reporting on the crappiest shows are generated? INside job promotion. Ever wondered why your best shows go off the air? It's about who gets to make the millions this year...

And at times they can do nothing more than jump in on the bandwagon of people actually watching a show like the one in question... and use their pollling game as fact.

Well supposedly their ratings are based on what percentage of those 10,000 watched a particular show.

But I agree, the Nielsen system is largely inaccurate. It needs to be scrapped.

As a former employee of Nielsen I can tell you that they do actually strive for data that is both accurate and not totally meaningless. It is not a perfect system by any means and like everything should not be taken only at face value or used as the sole indicator of viewership. That being said their research does provide insight into the viewing habits of the public.

I thought the show showed real spark and promise. Betty White's character needs some serous work if she is going to a be regular - she is currently relegated to doing Johnny One Note" you're all hookers" lines. Let her character warm up as the show progresses and become more real. The other actresses were superb, with Wendy Malick going off the charts and Valerie Bertinelli and Jane Leeves doing a good job!
