While both teams were strong defensively, it was a scary start for the Lakers and their fans after the Celtics took and held an early lead. Though the Lakers shot a terrible percentage, offensive rebounding kept them in the game and the Lakers were able to claw their way back to a tenuous four- to six-point lead in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.
After the game, Kobe Bryant was honored as the Final's MVP and and an elated Ron Artest thanked his doctors and psychiatrist for keeping him calm during the grueling Finals series. Coach Phil Jackson credited Artest as the most valuable player in the game, bringing energy (and three fast breaks) to a mostly listless offense in the first half and hitting a key three-pointer in the fourth.
Coach Jackson also praised Pau Gasol for carrying the Lakers offense in the fourth quarter with a few key possessions.
Celebs in the crowd included Ryan Seacrest, Kris, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, George Lopez, Flea, Usher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Greg Kinnear, Andy Garcia, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, and Laura Dern.
