Downed trees and power lines were being reported from Lake County through Will County as severe thunderstorms packing winds of more than 70 mph smacked into the Chicago area this afternoon.
The National Weather Service said winds could gust to nearly 80 mph and produce hail and rainfall at roughly two inches an hour.
