I wear form fitting swimming suits because I do not get as cold because I dry faster, I chafe less, I can move so much easier while swimming and getting in and out of the water, and they provide needed support, comfort, and control.
Why is it acceptable for a woman to wear form fitting swim wear that sometimes outlines her nipples and labia? What is the aversion to the male form? Why the double standard?
Can people accept that swim wear (or any clothing) can be worn for functionality without regard to "what looks good"? Are looks more important than function?

Speedo is a brand, and these are not "Speedo"s. These are bikinis. Men's swimsuits come in many shapes and sizes, and the appropriate style should be chosen based on function.

Me? I wear jammers to swim at the gym, bikinis to beach and on my boat for tanning, and board shorts as a cover up or for water-skiing.

I think clothes should be functional, comfortable as well as attractive. These suits will certainly lead to some embarassing moments - I remembered seeing a man pulling himself out of a pool wearing a speedo, exposing his errected digit rising above his suit. With young children around the pool side, this was a bit much. The same thing with women who wear tops that do not support their breasts and then have to constantly be tugging and pulling to replace the fabric for coverage.

If you are going to swim, or play sand volley ball, or other activity - wear something that will let you perform basic body movements without your clothes exposing too much.

These suits look better in photos than in real life.

Well, let the young children vote. I think you'll find that, if left to their own devices, most young children would end up without clothes on because they are hot, cumbersome, restrict movement, etc. AND they don't really care about carrying the weight of social stigma about body gender, type, color, deformaties or most of the other baggage adults elect to carry around. Yes, clothes should be functional. Board shorts on a beach are functional for sopping up tons of water, dripping, being cold, collecting sand and shells and hiding a man's physique which a lot of men have worked very hard to culture... not to mention promoting the anemic legs that will never tan between the navel and the knees. A great look at the gym. Oh, and don't forget it's like swimming with a pair of pants on.
I like to see people who are happy with themselves and wear what suits them, is the most comfortable and functional and puts a smile on their faces. It's pretty tiring hearing the same old "watch out for the children" and "... only if they look good in it" arguments. Look good by whose standards? For my part if the wearer is happy I am happy for them and enjoy their happiness. I'm not qualified to judge everyone's choices in clothes or set arcane standards for them to follow. We're a pretty hung up country but that's another topic. Go Briefs of all kinds for those happy wearing them!

Anyone who has done any actual swimming knows that a Speedo is far more functional and comfortable for that activity than the ridiculously baggy board shorts that are currently in fashion. I'm sure they're not for everyone, but the anti-Speedo mind-set has gone a bit over-board in the past few years.

If you have the hot bodies that these models have then fellas, knock yourselves out and rock the speedo.

If you don't, then step away from the speedo. Do not even try to get your hamhock legs into one of these or prance around with your wine barrel belly hanging over it like a cliff. Leave it alone.

You're right, it does depend on who's wearing them and that's the problem. Some men don't get it that no amount of stomach should hang over the top, NONE! So if your stomach doesn't look like the models' above, don't put them on. As women know, "Just because it comes in your size, it doesn't mean you should wear it." LOL!
05:43 PM on 06/25/2010
Lol exactly! Its only for their own good! Muffin speedos make men look terrible!
