As new details emerge about the death of Tom Nicon and more and more signs point to suicide, designers are speaking out about the pressures of the fashion industry and mourning the male model.

According to the Guardian UK, Giorgio Armani said, "This [fashion] world is too closely linked to youth and makes it seem like life ends at 22....We need to make the young understand life is beautiful from 23 onwards as well. There will always be disappointments, including in love, but they must be faced up to without tragedy."

Donatella Versace said, "We just can't understand why he did what he did. We would never have thought he would do something like this. When we heard the news we were all so upset and we still are all so very sad.''

Someone who cares - to his unending regret

Would be rather depressing to contemplate leaving the fanciful, fantastic world of fashion for the world that our esteemed politicians are building for the rest of us.

The world of high fashion has been successfully making many people who aren't young, thin, and on-trend feel bad about themselves for decades now. I'm sure the models have it even worse since their livelihoods are involved. People like Armani, Versace, and MANY others SHOULD re-think how they treat people who don't look like they should be auditioning for Avatar. They pick models who hardly look human and STILL they airbrush them. I think Donatella started to get the message when her own daughter suffered life-threatening anorexia, but I don't know what the others have for an excuse. My sympathy to Mr. Nicon's loved ones.

suicide is so sad. how you can be in a place that you think is so bad that it will never get better is very tragic.
