Cornell Suicide Barriers Should Stay: Report

A new report urges Cornell University to keep intact suicide barriers on campus bridges in the wake of six student deaths earlier this year.

According to a writeup of the report on Cornell's website, suicide sites have reached an "iconic status" at the school and individuals who jump at the sites "act impulsively" and choose a specific place to do so. They concluded that barriers at jumping sites have a good chance of preventing deaths.

The school is also implementing a host of seminars for new students on topics ranging from mental health to substance abuse.
