Larry King Oil Spill Telethon Ratings Disappoint

Larry King's CNN telethon may have helped raise almost $2 million for the victims of the Gulf oil spill, but the broadcast did so with an alarmingly low number of viewers.

The telethon — which featured celebrities including Justin Bieber, Sting, Ryan Seacrest, and Jenny McCarthy — came in fourth place at 8PM and third at 9PM hour Monday.

At 8PM, the telethon averaged just 547,000 total viewers, behind Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor" (2.744 million), MSNBC's "Countdown" (1.010 million) and HLN's "Nancy Grace" (787,000).

At 9PM, the telethon averaged 647,000 total viewers, enough to beat HLN's "Joy Behar" (586,000) but less than Fox News' "Hannity" (1.876 million) and MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show" (871,000).

To compare, King's January Haiti telethon averaged 1.187 million total viewers for CNN.
