Steve King: The Year In Crazy So Far! (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 06/23/10 02:32 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:50 PM ET

Can we talk about Representative Steve King (R-Iowa) for a minute? For a long time, Steve King wasn't much more to America than a guy often confused for Representative Peter King (R-N.Y.). At times, this was understandable! But lately the former King is doing his level best to put an end to that, putting himself out there as the reigning King of the Cray-Cray.

In a way, this is the same as it ever was. In 2009, Steve King managed to draw attention to himself in many unique ways. There was that time, for instance, that he cast the lone vote against acknowledging that slaves played a role in the construction of the United States Capitol Building. He also strangely described gay marriage as a "purely socialist concept," perhaps referring to the fact that reality television had created emerging and important markets for heterosexuals to thoroughly debase themselves in public. He also assailed hate crimes legislation for protecting "sexual idiosyncrasies," no doubt out of nostalgia for a simpler time, when people with "sexual idiosyncrasies" were tied to fence posts and beaten.

Fellow bonkersauce all-star Michele Bachmann has vowed that she will not run for president unless called to do so by the Almighty, but she nevertheless sees a presidential run in King's future, saying that she "would encourage him to consider any position for higher office." I'd definitely wait for the Lord to weigh in on that, but in the meantime, with the always invaluable assistance of HuffPost's own Elyse Siegel and Nick Wing, let's enjoy the best of Steve King's recent brainstem eruptions. He could be positioning himself for a run! It just might be a run headlong at a wall, built by slaves.

King: Barton Was ‘Spot-On’ With ‘Shakedown’ Comment
1 of 7
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says he agrees with Texas Republican Congressman Joe Barton’s recent use of the term “shakedown” to describe the Obama administration’s actions to hold BP accountable in the wake of the massive oil spill continuing to plague the Gulf Coast.

Barton fired the criticism at the White House last week at a Capitol Hill hearing Hill related to the oil giant’s involvement in the catastrophic spill, issuing an apology to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the administration’s actions.

Now, King is running with Barton’s “shakedown” remark despite the comment being widely condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

"I think Joe Barton was spot-on when he called it a 'shakedown,'” King told conservative radio host Laura Ingraham on Monday. “That's part of this administration's process… If you look at all they have nationalized during this administration, some started during the Bush administration, it should tell you, they want to swallow up as many Fortune 500 companies as they can."

The lack of OUTRAGE from any other members of his party simply means that they are in agreement. But then we all knew that was their position anyway.

I think it would be a good idea if members of congress were routinely expected to be tested for drugs. Just imagine how many representatives and senators are operating half or fully affected by prescription and/or street drugs.

When you are a racist, you can't understand how others are always complaining about you. You feel you have every right to feel the way you do because that's all you know. You will never be able to understand the opposite point of view because you have never lived being any other race and you feel entitled because you are the superior race you think.

It doesn't surprise me in the least bit about either of their attitudes about race. What WOULD surprise me would be if they truly understood! That would flip my wig for sure.

I got tired long ago trying to make rational comments to racists offended that they have been called out. Now I just post that they are playing the "Klan card."

King represents the 5th District, a very rural, conservative quadrant of the state. Interestingly, that's where a significant portion of Iowa's meat and poultry processing plants are located, and where an ever increasing percentage of Hispanics reside.

Looking at his photo, he is the poster boy for "wild-eyed" GOP representative. I won't even try to comment on Bachman, there isn't enough space in the window.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, there is no law nor constitutional amendment for that matter that prohibits crazies from running for office and for their fellow crazies voting for them. Wouldn't it be nice if we could house all the crazy congressmen and women in the House of Representative Lunatics with padded cells and sound proof walls!

Steve King grows in popularity everyday. Whenever the lefties despise someone, its easy to assume that that person is a true patriot who loves America and her traditional values. When lefties go off the deepend, you know you have found your champion.
11:03 AM on 06/24/2010
I'd be willing to bet that we "lefties" despise Osama bin Laden. By your logic, does that make him your champion?

Let's look at the Republican Party... Limbaugh, Beck, Savage, Colter, Huckabee, Palin, Bauchman, Barton, Brewer, Perry, Paul...and son, Wilson(You Lie!) King and Grassly. I'm not a Democrat, but I don't see how anyone can vote for these buffoons.

First of all, the first 6 folks on your list are not running for anything. You do understand the difference between the Punditry and politicians, dont you? If not, they are teaching a course at your local area communtiy college that may shead some light on this for you.

The first 4 are the "defacto" voice of the Republican Party that creates its talking points and encourages this inanity. And the next two are running if "God calls me" or if "God opens a door" respectively. The last ten merely regurgitate the bile vomited up by first four. Thank you for you simplistic explanation of the obvious but I already have my degree's.

The people he named are the most well-known leaders of GOP and who knows what Palin's plans are? She's love to be president but I doubt she'll make it. The rest of Ron's list are all simply weird and I sure wouldn't vote for them, even if I was a Republican.
