Sarah Palin Endorses Op-Ed Comparing President Obama To Hitler, Suggesting BP Escrow Fund Could Lead To Nazi-Like Dictatorship

On Friday, Sarah Palin took to Twitter to direct her followers to read a recent op-ed from conservative columnist Thomas Sowell that compares President Obama to Hitler and warns that establishing a BP escrow fund could lead to further embrace of Nazi-like dictatorial powers.

"GOP: Don't let the lamestream media suck you into "they're defending BP over Gulf spill victims" bs," Palin wrote. "This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab. Read Thomas Sowell's article."

The ex-Alaska governor also provided her Twitter followers with a link to Sowell's article titled, "Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?"

Here's an excerpt of what the conservative voice had to say in criticizing the president as well as the idea of creating a BP-financed fund to pay restitution to victims of the massive oil spill continuing to devastate the Gulf Coast:

That law gave Hitler dictatorial powers that were used for things going far beyond the relief of the German people -- indeed, powers that ultimately brought a rain of destruction down on the German people and on others.

If the agreement with BP was an isolated event, perhaps we might hope that it would not be a precedent. But there is nothing isolated about it.

Earlier this week, Congressman Louie Gohmert cited the same piece from Sowell in delivering a speech on the House floor. The Texas Republican called Sowell "brilliant" and said that he would have voted for the columnist had he run against Obama in the 2008 presidential election.

There's a brilliant man named Thomas Sowell. And, um, I didn't vote for Barack Obama in 2008, but I sure would have voted for Thomas Sowell. This man, well, his article says quite a lot. His editorial, um, says here -- and it's just been posted this week -- but it says, "When Adolph Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920's" -- and I'm quoting from Thomas Sowell in his editorial...

““World exclusive, NATIONAL ENQUIRER names Sarah Palin's secret lover!

Three members of the man’s family, one by sworn affidavit, claimed Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair with husband Todd’s former business partner, Brad Hanson. The affair nearly wrecked both marriages.

Hanson owned a snowmobile dealership with Palin’s husband Todd, who immediately dissolved the partnership after he heard stories the affair occurred around 1996 while Palin was mayor of Wasilla.

Palin denied cheating on her husband, and Hanson insisted to The NATIONAL ENQUIRER that he was never romantically involved with the 44-year-old Republican vice presidential candidate.

However, Hanson family insider, Jim Burdett, on the record, passed a polygraph test, revealing details of the affair to The NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

“I’ve known about Brad having had an affair for a long time, but it wasn’t until recently I learned his affair was with Sarah Palin,” Burdett told The NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

“Sarah was mayor of Wasilla, Brad became a city council member in the nearby town of Palmer, and they started an affair.

Another source, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of repercussions, provided The NATIONAL ENQUIRER with a sworn affidavit attesting to the Palin-Hanson story.

“Todd was away on business a lot, Sarah felt lonely. Brad was a good listener, Sarah talked to him at length. Eventually, she realized she was falling in love with him.”

“When Todd got back from one of his trips, Sarah told him that she had begun to have feelings for Brad.””

Wow people. Let's observe Sowell's comments in context:
http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=537967&p=2

"At about the same time, during the worldwide Great Depression, the German Reichstag passed a law "for the relief of the German people."

That law gave Hitler dictatorial powers that were used for things going far beyond the relief of the German people — indeed, powers that ultimately brought a rain of destruction down on the German people and on others."
+++++++++++++++

If the federal government was not taking over more and more of the economy, and not exercising increasing power over all of our lives, then the concerns about tyranny would be misplaced. But that IS the case and concerns about tyranny should be present for us all - regardless of our political bent.

People who belittle this remind me of those that think we've evolved to such a degree that the our historical mistakes can never be repeated.

Seriously?

What does this have to do with the price of soybeans in China? Or the content of this article? People that railed over the obsession with the Republicans with Bill Clinton's sex life are the first to pile onto an Enquirer article about Palin.

Uh huh - I see the double standard - don't you? ;)

And to think Palin's delusional fans still can't fathom why so many people view her as a demagogue. www.eightfits.blogspot.com

The key elements of Nazism were; anti-parliamentarism, ethnic nationalism, racism, collectivism, eugenics, anti-semitic, opposition to economic liberalism and political liberalism, free opposition to intellectual inquiry, and anti-communism.

It's really, really funny that these hypocritical idiots are shouting about Nazism and Obama leading us into that state, when they are enthusiastically practicing all of the above with vigor. If history is repeating itself here then these folks are practicing and feeding a very dangerous fascist agenda to their ever growing blind flock.

Next time wi will have the Spring flood, make sure to demand compensation from Carnival Cruses for all damages.

United Airlines can be mugged for money to cover damages from the hail storm.

just so its clear, if I as an individual go camping and obey all the rules yet have a spark from my camp fire starts a raging forest fire. This fire destroys many multiple millons of dollar homes and kills 11 people. along with destroying an area about the size of the states of virginia. I will go to jail and face criminal charges.
now
same scenario only this time I am hosting a corporate training seminar and as part of a team building exercise we build a gigantic bonfire without following any real guidelines for safety. the fire gets out of hand and 11 employees are killed. and again several multi million dollar businesses are destroyed and a land are about the size of the states of virginia are ravaged. Per the GOBP talking airheads, I should not face criminal charges and restitution should not be started until the courts say so. maybe 20 years later.
I want to incorporate myself.

She obviously has a staffer that is fluent in Palinspeak translating her Tweets. She just goes all stream-of-consciousness for 20 minutes and they trim it down to the requisite number of rational characters.

This is about the rule of law vs. an unconstitutional power grab....

Sarah Palin....Constitutional scholar. Who knew?

The concept that Dr. Sowell was explaining is beyond the Palin bashers who post regularly on this site. Their hatred for this woman renders their analytical capabilities nonexistent.

Sarah Palin was merely agreeing with Dr. Sowell's point that many leaders over the years, 'have not let a crisis go to waste'. Many have made unconstitutional power grabs at those opportune times. Desperate people in times of trouble often have condoned this behavior rather than follow the law.

What is wrong or untruthful about this concept? Are you disagreeing with historical facts?

What is not factual?

Or is your problem that Palin agreed with it so it must be stupid?

My problem isn't that she agreed with it - even I agree with it. But her agreement, I think, needs to be placed in its proper context: her paranoia about big government and her belief that Obama is some kind of evil socialist bogeyman. I don't think she agreed with it because it is true - I think she agreed with it in order to find an articulate stick with which to beat our president. The two are not entirely the same thing.

actually, because you suggest that some one read an article , it does not follow that you endorse the article. This is a minor point of common sense that seems to have many people confused. eg: You should read " the political insight of Janeane Garofalo".
Also, it must be pointed out that in the Sowell article, he did not say that an escrow fund could lead to a Nazi like dictatorship.
This is a major point of common sense.

I agree. However, the idea that Sarah reads so much that she is capable of recommending anything that she has a philosophical/ideological disagreement rather strains credulity.
