Landon Donovan LOVE CHILD? Tabloid May Report Secret Kid

Landon Donovan Love Child

First Posted: 06/28/10 11:57 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 05:55 PM ET

Landon Donovan has played his final World Cup game of 2010 after scoring three goals during the U.S. men's national team's run in South Africa, but his off-the-field life continues to make news.

Just days after reports surfaced that Donovan may be rekindling his romanace with wife and actress Bianca Kajlich, Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated writes that a British tabloid is planning to feature a story about a woman who claims to be pregnant with what she says is Donovan's child.

"I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support," Donovan told SI. Read Wahl's full report for more.

UPDATE: A source tells UsMagazine.com that Donovan's wife has "been aware of the claim [and] is extremely supportive of Donovan."

He manned up instead of running away. What more does anybody want? He isn't John Terry.
"I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support," End of story.

who cares? it's not scandalous, it's not news, and it's nobody's business. why doesn't the huffpo do a serious report on the thousands of children born of momentary unions every month in the united states, and what happens to them: some are put of for adoption, some lucky ones are loved and cared for (as I assume mr. donovan's will be), but most grow up in homes where they are not wanted, unloved, and not cared for. this last group faces a statistically grim future, and little if anything is done to make it better. That's a story worth telling; Landon Donovan's personal life isn't.

If I was a pro athlete I would have some sperm frozen and then I would have a vasectomy and I would have it announced in the media. That would take care of unwanted children, unwanted lawsuits and I would still be able to have children with the woman I wanted to. All upsides.

Or they could keep it in their pants, but maybe your idea is better.

I would recommend every man do this, honestly.

Anyone remember the story about the 10 year old little English boy who fathered a child with a 14 year old girl???

When the DNA came back, he wasn't the father

And why did this gold-digger need to air this publicly instead of just telling him?

Here's my problem, among many, with “news” outlets like these and why I am glad the US is out of the World Cup: when the team wins, its member are invincible, they are heroes ... and we say to ourselves, “if perchance, the US team wins the whole thing, the whole world would have to called "futbol" soccer” - completely ignoring the odds.

Once the team loses, we find and dig up dirt to vilify or humanize its members. This is just sad!

Witness the same situation with Melanie Oudin, the young American lady who made it to the US Open quarterfinals last year.

This is why I seldom root for Americans in international sporting events. First, we defy them (for any margin of victory), then we vilify them (simply for losing a game).

In South America, they shot and killed a goalie a few years back, who had allowed a goal.

I think you are referring to Andres Escobar, a Columbian defender who was killed by a deranged fan in a bar soon after Columbia was eliminated from the 1994 World Cup. He scored an own goal, which was why Columbia was out. Evidently that goal cost some Columbian drug lords a lot of money they had bet on Columbia (which had an excellent team that year).

What happened with Oudin after the US Open? I missed that...

She was hailed a "hero" and deified after making it to the quarterfinals of the US Open (an impressive feat, no doubt), but as soon as she lost, the airwaves was flooded with the divorce news of her parents, the suggestion that her mother was sleeping with her coach, and the fact that Melanie's boyfriend was on 16 - suggesting statutory r'a'p'e.
