Surfing Mice In Australia (VIDEO)

WATCH: Man Teaches Mice To SURF

A gang of surfing mice in Australia are giving Laird Hamilton a run for his money.

Shane Wilmott, a resident of the Gold Coast in Australia, has been building tiny replicas of real surf boards in order to teach his mice how to ride them. And, amazingly, it's working.

Indeed, mice are actually strong swimmers, according to Wilmott.

And though Wilmott is proud to report he hasn't lost any of his mates, "I made a promise to myself that if one of my mice gets hurt I will stop. I only do it because I feel they are safe. These guys aren't just my pets, they're my mates too so I care about them a lot."

Wilmott taught his first mice to surf 25 years ago when he was a teenager, and currently has four mice that are fully trained for ocean surfing.

These mice had to go through rigorous training sessions in which they started in the bath, then moved out to the pool to be towed by a remote controlled boat. Finally, when Wilmott decides they're ready, they are taken to the ocean to ride the waves and entertain the fellow beach goers.
