11 Pets Who HATE The 4th Of July (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/04/10 09:34 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 05:55 PM ET

While celebrating America's Birthday, one should feel free to impress and bedazzle the world with as many cumbersome and showy examples of patriotism as one sees fit. But when it comes to the patriotic attire of your pets, it might be best to leave the red, white, and blue doggie vest at home. These poor feline and canine pets have all been victims of what can be described as patriotic extravagance. And none of them seem impressed.

Oh. My. God. Who would spray paint a cat to look like an American flag? That is just not right. Someone needs to call the Humane Society.

I think that the title to this article should read:

11 owners who hate their pets

that's if the pets were reading this article in caninetonpost.com!

Title 4, United States Code Chapter 1 Section 4(j) States:

"No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart."

This applies to people. It should go double for animals.

I feel like Bob Barker should have ended the Price is Right with "This is Bob Barker reminding you to help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered! And never, ever mutilate them in any way to resemble an American flag!"

In many states it's considered abuse to multi-color your dogs fur. It's stupid I know but I didn't make the law.

It does not. Dogs have too many rights when other animals such as cows and chicken don't.

What I find funny, are the people who painted the flags on their pets, painted them the wrong way. You'd think painting pets would go by the same rules as putting flags on uniforms and cars, which is stars forward.

I just find it funny that people this patriotic, wouldn't look up the right, respectful way to fly the flag... then again, they are putting it on their pets... so... lol.

(I'm the farthest thing from a flag waver there is, though I do love my country flaws and all.)

Don't most pets hate the 4th of July? My mom's dog was so freaked out by firecrackers she chewed on the door jamb!

Are these dyes toxic to animals? What keeps the animals from licking their dye?

Whatever people say about how "harmless" they are, these dyes can't be a good idea.

I've heard of using food coloring and/or unsweetened koolaid. Not super healthy in large doses, but probably not going to require a call to poison control either. That said, still seems kinda wrong.
