You know why Europe is so cool about nudity, boobies, etc?/ Because they got the living snit bombed out of themselves in two world wars, and they came to realize that life is short and precious, so why waste it obsessing about the supposed evils of things that bring pleasure. WE on the other hand are stuck over here feeling superior and uptight, clinging to our Puritanical hand-me-downs generation after generation. We had a flash of utopia there in the late 60's but the materialistic excess and VD of the 70's squelched that.

Certainly didn't help, but we were back in to the conservative Reagan years already when AIDS blew up.

On a more practical note; our lack of appreciation of the arts, with nudes, sculptures, etc probably hurts us too. Europeans had been admiring those forms for thousands of years. The Europeans that settled us felt that was scandalous and impure, and we're still crawling out from under that oppresive thinking all these years later.

From an artistic perspective, I think the photos are stunning. In terms of what I find aesthetically attractive, only Renn even comes close. The others are so thin. I'm not saying they need to lose weight, but I simply cannot see what is sexually appealing about bodies that are so angular and lacking in suppleness...

Europeans think we're hilariously naive about the human body and sex in general. Reading through the comments (it's old news headline grabbing!) (What about the Gulf Spill, and Afghanistan, and, and, etc, how DARE they show us boobies).

The human form is beautiful. This is art. Nudity isn't always exploitation, either of the consumer or the performer. The world can still get on with the war and show some boobs. I was in Germany in 1990, flipping through a major News Magazine, Der Spiegel, mainstream for them as Newsweek is for us. Dude standing there advertising something without a sexual angle (not like a sex ad or something) and the dude was full frontal nude. In mainstream media. in 1990.

It's funny, I'm staunch lefty, and I know the social conservatives are hilarious about this kind of stuff, but my fellow lefties who wouldn't give the time of day to the other deep down are as prudish, puritanical and embarrassed as one another about a natural thing.

I agree with Heinlein. Nudity taboos indicate, how to put this gently, disturbed societies...

I was in Europe and the Middle East back in the late 80s/early 90s. Topless bathing, no problem. Magazines showing the beauty of the human body, no problem.

They simply don't have these hangups.
