Reid Republishes Angle's Old Website, Defying Cease And Desist Order

First Posted: 7/6/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Sharron Angle

Less than 24 hours after removing a version of Sharron Angle's original unvarnished campaign website, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is defying a cease and desist order from his Tea Party opponent and republishing the site.

The Nevada Democrat's re-election campaign unveiled (for the second time) its website The Real Sharron Angle on Tuesday afternoon. The site is basically the same platform Angle used when running in the Nevada Republican primary, though Reid's staff tinkered with its presentation to ensure it could withstand a legal challenge from the Angle campaign.

The move is a show of defiance from the Majority Leader. Hours after launching her new website -- in which many of her more provocative positions have been scrubbed -- Angle filed a legal objection to Reid's publishing of her old campaign website material, claiming misuse of copyrighted materials. The Tea Party favorite was able to win temporary relief, with Reid agreeing to pull down the old site over the July 4th weekend. But the Senate Majority Leader's legal team clearly feels there is no standing for Angle's objections. At the very least, the advantages of highlighting Angle's now- former positions and statements outweighs the potential cost in legal fees from the back-and-forth sparring over copyright law.

"While we disagree with the assertions in Angle's 'Cease and Desist' letter, we took the website down temporarily to make crystal clear the intent is solely to point out how far Sharron Angle is running from her own embarrassing record," read a statement from Brandon Hall, Reid's campaign manager. "We are not attempting to deceive anyone. Unfortunately, that point was lost on Angle's campaign, as evidenced by the threat of legal action to get her own website taken down. We made minor changes to address her frivolous concerns and now hope the new Sharron Angle will focus on explaining why the old Sharron Angle's views are so unacceptable."

Reid has made changes in his presentation of Angle's old website. The new version does not contain the sections soliciting donations and email addresses, in an effort to disabuse the claim that he is trying to steal the names of her supporters.

Hey, y'all, this is kinda scary. http://realclearpolitics.blogs.time.com/2010/07/06/sharron-angle-vs-the-bubble-boys/

That woman might win. I really think moderates are in trouble in many states. And progressives are in serious trouble.

Unfortunately, I think our conservadem challenger is going to lose in my home state.

Well, Sharron! It didn't take very long at all for K arl Ro ve to smash your teapot!

He's going to like you for your obedience, in abandoning the platform that got you nominated, for the one DICT ATED by the GOP spin machine.

I can tell, K arl Ro ve likes you already, because "The Selling Out Of Sharron Angle" took no effort at all!! Instead of just telling you to not speak at all, like Rand Paul was told, he gave you "the gift" of a platform that will get normal people to vote for you.

In your DREAMS!! Do you REALLY THINK nobody is noticing this HORSE MAN URE???

How do you suppose all the people who supproted your ma dness will feel now, seeing how you only used them to get nominated?

Mercy, I could go on all day with the errors on that old site. Its embarrassing to read knowing she was supposedly a teacher. Now we know the quality that home-schooling can bring as well. She says social security has become "and entitlement program" instead of "an." Come on, Sharron, didn't you give some poor kid an F for this kind of school work? Its one thing to make typos posting on a comments section of the HP or elsewhere, but on one's own informational centerpiece for a senatorial campaign? And not just one, but lots and lots of them? Really?

Even worse is her completely irresponsible take on health care, where she wants to both undo whatever it is she calls "Obamacare" while at the same time preventing people with no money or insurance from getting to use the emergency room for treatments. If the people of Nevada elect this nut-job, then they have completely lost their minds.

Don't tell me she wants to have folks barter for health care with animals, like another famous and recent candidate. Oh, well maybe her health care plan consists of handing out bullets to the ill.

Wow, her old website says she was "art of a ministry team" as well. Did ANYONE proof her site before publishing it? No wonder they revamped it, as it not only shows the crazy in her, but shows that as a school teacher she was surely not teaching English as a first language.

I want big government out of my life, until I want someone else out of my life, in which case I want the government to intervene to get that other person out of my life, then I want the government out of my life again, but I want government to fix the economy and the oil spill but to do it without collecting any taxes to pay for it or needing anyone with an education in anything but right wing indoctrination to do it, then I want big government out of my life until someone else offends me and then I want...

(you get the idea)

How is it possible for a candidate for political office to obtain "Cease and Desist" orders regarding their own words?

Is it now the law of the land that absurd positions, previously endorsed, are now declared off-limits under penalty of law? And this "copyright" argument is pure deceit. In this day of maximum communication, there's no denying your own words. They're either in print or digitally preserved for eternity. This is a decided hindrance for those on the right, who've incorporated the art of fabrication into their presentations for decades.

These Teabaggers produce jaw-dropping initiatives on a daily basis. They claim that they want the government out of their lives, but judging by the scenes from their events, I dare say that any attempt to deprive them of their Social Security and Medicare would be met with armed insurrection.

And now Ms. Angle wants court protection from publication of her very own insanity. She's got herself some savvy PR guys from GOP central, and they've apparently managed to convince her that running on her true beliefs would spell sure defeat.

So she's willing to publicly abandon her ridiculous positions in order to win election, knowing full well that, should she achieve her goal, she will be free to return to her core "principals" for the next six years.

It's a nightmare scenario that, hopefully my fellow Nevadans will see for the fraud that it is...

She didn't get an order, she had Foley and Lardner send a letter demanding them to cease and desist, in one of the stupidest letters from a lawyer I believe I've ever read in my life.

And, of course, she doesn't want tax money to fund the government action on her behalf.

And this, America, is the Tea Party, the GOBP, the American Taliban and the regressive right of 2010. This is what they claim Americans want this country to move towards. This is what we can if the right takes over Congress this November, and in great measure.

The Constitution of the United States of America is applicable ONLY to the ideas and ideology of the right. The idea of the government overreaching and overregulating applies ONLY when those rules or regulations go against anything they believe in or support. If you cross them they have absolutely no issue running to the government, the courts or the media to shut you up, shut you down or proclaim their eternal victimhood.

All of these people, especially those in the Tea Party, think that they can spew all of the garbage they do and that the bulk of Americans are going to rally behind them gladly. If the principles, values and ideals of the Tea Party are what the American people are looking for, if they are what "real Americans" want to see in government, if Americans are truly that disgusted and ready for the radical change the Tea Party offers, why is it so necessary to change the message? Why was it necessary to scrub the sight of her true views? Does that mean she doesn't believe in what she claimed were her core values? Did they not fit on the palm of her hand? Is the Tea Party a fraud???

Good for you Harry, this should be an object lesson to all the republicans who choose to pander to the radicals in their party by taking extremist positions. They think they can say all these inflammatory things and pretend it never happened. Good for you reminding people how low these politicians are willing to go to get votes, and how fringe their real positions are when they try to appear like they are not extremists.

At least Reid uses his balls when it comes to his his own re-election. Would be great if he used them in less self-interested ways like, say, fighting for progressives in his own party.

Beware of tealiban candidates who will deny their true beliefs in order to win general elections. Dick Armey, head of Freedom Works, also told the candidates to tone down their beliefs because he knew they wouldn't win the general elections, in other words, pretend to be a moderate. Governor McDonnell of Virginia, wrote a scathing paper for his christian college on women who are destroying the family and anti-gay assertions. Says his views changed since then but since becoming governor, his mask fell off. He had to back off on several of his proclamations when people protested. Governor Christie ran on a moderate platform also and now he is laying off thousands of teachers saying it will save 838 million dollars but gave a tax cut to wealthy families making a million dollars or more costing 1 billion dollars in tax revenues.
President Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy cost over 2.5 trillion Dollars to the treasury from 20001-2010. I have to say though I'd rather have Bush than the tealibans. He ran mostly on a fiscal consevative platform(but failed miserbly) while the tealibans are running on a mostly socially consevative platform and that my friends, is scary as hell.
