Elie Saab Models Fall On Runway (VIDEO, PHOTO)

First Posted: 07/08/10 01:08 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:00 PM ET

It was every model's worst nightmare at Wednesday's Elie Saab Haute Couture show as high heels met a slippery surface, resulting in several of the girls wiping out...in a serious way. Fortunately, they all got back up, but maybe helmets and knee pads should be in for Fall.

WATCH:

Here's an image of one of the models on her way down:

Totally irresponsible on the part of whomever is in charge of ensuring safety.

I think it is common.

But if they were thinner they would not fall.

Okay, this video is stupid, but HuffPost PLEASE do more slideshows of fashion shows in this fashion section. For people who love the artistic side of fashion, the gossipy stuff is not as interesting as the designer's shows. MORE SLIDESHOWS! They can be old, new, domestic, international, big names, small names. MORE FASHION SLIDESHOWS! Less gossip.

Especially when the clothes are as gorgeous as those made by Elie Saab!

Yes, those gowns were gorgeous.

Any designer who expects their models to walk flawlessly in ridiculous shoes on that ice-rink surface is an idiot. One of these days, one of those ladies is going to be seriously injured and I hope she sues. After all, if you can't walk, you can't work.

Exactly! (happy to be your 1st fan) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0DZXeHgdUc I can't believe the model in this youtube video didn't break her ankles!

If I were a fashion designer...

If you make a stupid amount of money and all you have to do is walk...I think you should be able to walk through anything. Your job is walking...that's it. DON'T FALL DOWN...I don't care if it's ice, you had better be able to dance across it on hard plastic shoes covered in bacon grease.

Otherwise, I can find some other twit with a thyroid condition and coke addiction to wear my fashions.

Is there anything more droll
than beautiful women in expensive clothes
falling down?
Isn't that the whole idea
of the runway,
the ridiculous shoes,
and the hairdo swinging like a gate
in the wind?
The whole situation, absurdly comic
designed, of course,
by a him.

I agree, although I love a good wipe out!

This happens a lot and I just don't understand why something isn't done about it- either the surface of the runway, the bottoms of the shoes or the height of the shoes. I know that the aesthetic for a fashion show has to be perfect, but surely having girls wipe out at your show (even some of the most experienced walkers) doesn't make for the best aesthetic, either. You want people to be talking about the garments, not how many girls bit it during the show.

Thanks, so true.

I love the part where the narrator describes the fall as "mildly amusing to the audience". Perhaps they would laugh out loud if the poor girl were to break her leg or ankle.

Those crappy too-high heels.

No kidding!! When a model finally falls so hard that she knocks her teeth out, see how amusing the audience finds it ;)
