George Huguely

From the Associated Press:

RICHMOND, Va. -- Blood began flowing from the nose of a University of Virginia women's lacrosse player during the fight with her accused killer before he pushed onto a bed and left her apartment, according to search warrants unsealed Thursday.

The new documents also said police seized red-stained bedding and towels from the apartment of victim Yeardley Love and a passport from the shorts pocket of George Huguely, the player from the men's team accused of killing her.

However, a T-shirt that might have had trace evidence was not collected by police during an initial search of Love's apartment and apparently was gone when police returned to look for it a few days later.

Huguely of Chevy Chase, Md., has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond. He told police that he kicked in Love's bedroom door, shook her and her head hit a wall several times, according to previously released documents.

In the new documents, a police detective said Huguely "stated that at one point during the altercation he saw blood coming from Yeardley Love's nose." Huguely said he pushed Love onto her bed and left, the document says.

Huguely's lawyer has said the death was an accident. The lawyer, Francis Lawrence, did not immediately return a phone message.

The new details were included in several pages of search warrant records and affidavits that a Charlottesville Circuit Court judge ordered unsealed after a legal challenge by four news organizations: The Associated Press, the Daily Progress, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and The Washington Post.
Story continues below

In one of the documents, Huguely told police Love was wearing a black T-shirt during their confrontation and he believes she was still wearing it when he left her apartment. Witnesses told police the senior from Cockeysville, Md., was wearing only underwear when they found her. Crime scene photographs showed a black T-shirt on the floor near Love's body.

Police did not initially collect the shirt, and documents show it was not found in a subsequent search.

In addition to the stained bedding and towels, police seized hairs, the damaged bedroom door, swabs of red stains, a purse, electronics and a note in a desk drawer at Love's apartment.

A letter addressed to Love was confiscated at Huguely's home, and at least two handwritten notes were seized along with a camera and a cell phone during a search of the Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving. The contents of the notes and the letter were not among the released materials. Huguely told police he and Yeardley had been involved in a relationship that had ended.

Authorities also took scrapings from under Huguely's fingernails and hair samples from his head and legs. They used cotton swabs to collect cells from inside Huguely's cheeks for DNA samples, the records show, and seized various items of clothing - including a red-stained lacrosse T-shirt and the shorts with his passport and keys to the Tahoe in the pockets.

Other items taken from Huguely's home include rugs, a shower curtain, a notebook and two laptop computers. Police said Huguely told them he took a computer from Love's apartment, and they recovered it after he told them where they could find it. Huguely told police he and Love had exchanged e-mail messages shortly before he went to her apartment.

Internet and cell phone records that were the subject of a separate search warrant remain sealed.

I don't care if these two kids were rich, overly privileged kids or if people write about jumping to conclusions about what happened that resulted in death. This weenie killed someone's daughter, sister, and friend. Men don't assault women.

Wait a minute. Why is no one questioning how the police could possibly leave that t-shirt behind? Who the heck was in charge of collecting crime scene evidence and how hard can we fire them?

2 rich kids, without enough supervision and always being told they were the golden ones, got caught up in a senseless tragedy.

How is this her fault? She dated a guy who was violent and she tried to end it and he became more violent and then killed her.

Sounds more like just another man who is violent against women.

Your assumptions are just as gross, we do not have all of the info at this point so making assumptions on adds to the hearsay.

How about a young adult living under the relative supervision of a university dorm realizes the adult man she has been dating is violent and dangerous and gets murdered when she tells him the relationship is over.

Fixed.

Let's take Huguely's actions at face value instead of incriminating him for being born into a wealthy family. Everyone wants to paint Huguely as a monster who is simply a product of wealth, and privilege. It seems to me that Love was also a product of wealth and privilege, but these same circumstances make her and "angel".
No doubt, Huguely appears to be guilty of a violent and terrible crime. But we need to put him on trial and reserve a little perspective for our attacks on his upbringing, because it appears to be virtually the same as hers. You can't blame wealth and "lacrosse culture" for his faults at the same time praising wealth and "lacrosse culture" for her sainthood.

The difference between Ms. Love and the suspect is that Ms. Love never got in trouble and got bailed out by the Lacrosse culture and/or wealth.

One of these people used her opportunities well, the other used the opportunities for evil.

The rich and privileged will use their gifts to shield evil from consequences.

THAT'S the difference.

So what is the excuse for all of the poor people shooting each other down here in South Atlanta?

Not so fast, the difference was physical advantage on the part of Mr. Huguely and naivete on the part of Ms. Love. Evil, rich, lacrosse, privilege, and who got in trouble or didn't are all red herrings of class warfare.

I don't know that anyone is making her out to be an angel, maybe the media. Here's a thought, had a young man from a more modest background beat his girlfriend, of similar means, to death, do you think we would be talking about it here and now?

"In the new documents, a police detective said Huguely 'stated that at one point during the altercation he saw blood coming from Yeardley Love's nose.' Huguely said he pushed Love onto her bed and left, the document says."

...REALLY?! Does he really expect people to believe that? Yeah, sure dude, ...and of course her death was "an accident."

Shouldn't he have called 911 since he set the chain of actions that led to her death in motion? That is assuming we are to believe him.

I never understand why he (George Huguely) keeps on insisting that the death was an accident?! I think when you repeatedly bang someone's head... it's a murder. One bang against the wall, maybe it's an accident ... but repeatedly?! Come on' ...

He insists because by legal definition an "accident" lacks the element of premeditation, thus manslaughter rather than murder. He is attempting to establish that he did not intend to kill her but killed her by "accident." That is why a threat by email or letter or note is so important to a case for murder.

Again there is a presumption of innocence, until proven guilty at trial. The evidence is more than enough to convict and get a death sentence, if the boy was black and poor. He isnt, he will have competent legal help, the best of paid 'experts' and every piece of evidence will be hotly contested.

John Spenkalink once said 'Capital punishment means that those without capital, get the punishment'. I am willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that this is one of those cases.

May the poor victim rest in peace.

Have a great day!

George, was obviously trying to clean up a crime scene after his actions with intentions on taking a very long vacation as evidence of the passport at the ready. The only accident he had was getting caught. His attorney would have you believe a contrived tale of accidental behavior, to deflect the brutal savage reality of the crime committed against this young woman.Murder in the 1st degree is the only appropriate charge in this case. Anything less is a miscarriage of justice,

He also stole her computer after he murdered her. I wonder what was on it.

Me thinks George tried to clean up a crime scene and then had intentions of possibly taking a very long vacation. The only accident George had was getting caught! Every act committed seems to done with malicious intent to harm, harass and intimidate. His attorney would have you believe some other fairy tale contrived to hide the brutal reality of this crime. Unfortunately, a crime that involves dog fighting by a Black Male athlete (ie Michale Vick) sparks more of an outrage by the people of Virginia.

Most homicides of women by their husbands/boyfriends are committed by the use of the abuser's bare hands as the weapon.

He won't be in GP. He'll ask to be put in Protective Custody, like the coward he truly is. It's a lot easier to beat a woman than it is to beat someone your own size/strength..

A couple of points here:

The suspect seems to have a bit of a sociopathic personality, and those kinds of people tend to do well in a prison environment, and example being Scott Peterson.

Sometimes athletes at all levels are excused for various acts of depravity because of what they can do on the field. This can lead to narcissism.

Ms. Love was a college-grade athlete, as was the suspect. It would be really really hard to accidentally kill someone with Ms. Love's physical conditioning.

When this first happened, it was reported that her roommate thought she was sleeping, after having checked on her, and she later was concerned when Yeardley didn't wake. That made no sense to me then, and it especially doesn't now, considering the blood stained sheets.

Not pointing a finger here, but it may be worth it for the cops to see if Yeardley had frenemies who could have taken the shirt they say was missing from her apartment. Obviously Hugley is guilty, but still those details bug me . . .

Let me get this straight; George Hugely was born into extreme wealth. He had more opportunity to use his money, family name, position, education, etc., etc to do something meaningful for society, but he ended up killing an angel with his bare hands.
He was coddled through his early developmental ages (I grew up in Potomac MD, and this is the norm for the "elite", particularly at Landon) and never had to take responsibility for his actions. Laws don't apply to the filthy rich, well thankfully, first degree murder is hard to look away from, thank God. Even though I am a "bleeding heart liberal, I still believe in Capitol Punishment. Why should society pay for this moron’s jail time? You take a life and then you must give up yours. I reserve my sympathy to the "Loves" of this world, who now have to figure out how to live without their Angel.

So let's get this right. You believe in Capital Punishment because with 100% certitude you know that 100% of the time the right person is tried, convicted and sentenced. The prosecutors (scrupulous lot that they are) never lie. The jailhouse informants never have an agenda. The detectives never get it wrong. The witnesses are infallible. The evidence is inscrutable. For these reasons, you say, 'fry the person'. Because liberal that you are, you see this is a cost saving measure, and you kind of have an Old Testament / Koran view on life, right?

One more point: in order to be on a death penalty-candidate jury, the jurors have to be pro-death penalty. There is no question that people who are pro-death are far more likely to convict than those who are not pro-death penalty.

The Constitution (6th Amendment) says that an accused is entitled to an impartial jury, and the death penalty rule that you have to be a partisan to be on a jury violates that.
