While cleaning up Byrd's office, his staff came across a letter to Byrd from Abigail Van Buren in 1978 that suggested he would make a superb male model. It read: "If you ever decide you've had enough of the Senate (which would be the country's loss) you can always model men's wear for Brooks Brothers. What a super model you'd make." She also complimented him on his "perfectly stunning" photo in Time.
