Top 10 Best Hotels In America: Chicago's Trump Tower Tops The List

First Posted: 07/09/10 05:11 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:00 PM ET

The Donald is on top.

That's according to Travel + Leisure, the magazine that just released its "World's Best Awards" for 2010.

Trump Tower was ranked the No. 1 in the list of "Best Large City Hotels in the US/Canada," meaning hotels with more than 100 rooms. Its rating of 94.32 was the highest of any hotel in America, and it was good enough to land the hotel the #20 spot on the World's Best Hotels list.

In fact, Chicago had an astonishingly strong showing in this year's rankings: four Chicago hotels made America's top 10, and perennial powerhouse New York had two on the list. Check out the full list of hotels here.

So where should you stay on your next getaway? Check out the Top 10 and decide for yourself!

Not much west of the Rockies?
The Hyatt Regency in Bellevue Washington hosted the big Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival for the first time last year and everyone was delighted. Really delighted. The place is lovely and the staff are helpful.

and you've been to all the others, or any of the others?
Maybe it was the fun times playing bluegrass here there and everywhere, and the five fantastic resturants to choose from without ever leaving the hotel.

Nice, the Adolphus Hotel looks pretty nice and isn't all that far away. I think I may need to find a babysitter and have my wife and I take a "staycation", as I keep hearing it referred to as. We used to go down to Corpus and spend a few days at the beach for vacation but to heck with THAT now.. heh

You've obviously never seen the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island in Michigan. Try watching Christopher Reeves in "Somewhere in Time" where it was filmed to see a great hotel.

I spend my summer each year in St. Ignace. across Lake Huron from Mackinaw Island. It is great over there. We try to take the ferry across once a week for lunch at one of the small restaurants.

They now charge $10 to come on to the propery at the Grand. LOL EVERYONE must dress formally for dinner each night after 6:30 p.m.

I find it very hard to believe that in the top 10 or 50 hotels in US/Canada not one Canadian hotel made the list. What criteria are they using because I am sure the Ritz-Carleton in Montreal is a better hotel than anything Trump has built or manages. The same could be said for the Royal York in Toronto, The Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, and probably others across Canada. And I must say I can thing of far superior hotels in New York, San Francisco, LA and even Miami that are superior to these examples of piss elegance.

This is list is no good. But I don't like ultra fancy places. I like more modern or quirky hotels with nice beds and nice workout rooms.

One of my favorite hotels is the Le Germain in Toronto. I would for sure put that on my top 10 hotels. The service there was amazing. They went out of their way to make husbands birthday special, the room was beautiful and they did some really nice things for my 2 year old. They may not have gold water fountains but they have platinum service.

Yeah, and the Empress in Victoria! All the old E and N Hotels are lovely, nicely situated with well trained staff. People come from around the world to stay at the Empress.
There is only one hotel on that list west of the Rockies for cripes sake.

fanning y ou, cause I do get the point you are trying to make. These ultra expensive places do not reflect the reality for most people. It would be great to see a list of the best for under $100 a night. or $200 a night.
