Wounded Warrior Project paid their respects via Facebook.
Evidently GS was a big supporter and went out of his way for veterans.

RIP George. We loved your nastiness and love of winning. I hope the good Lord doesn't hold it against you.

Many may remember George Steinbrenner as a larger than life businessman, entrepreneur, and owner of the Yankees, but here in the Tampa Bay area he is also remembered for his philanthropic work, his kindness and generosity and community spirit.
The best legacy to be remembered by.

I live in the Tampa area. His impact in this area is amazing.

The Children's Trauma Ward at St Joseph's Hospital is all him.
His donations to education in the area led to the creation of George Steinbrenner HS.
He single-handedly saved the Tampa Orchestra. And so much more.

His generous contributions to some many things is more than can be listed.
And he did all of this not seeking any publicity for his philanthropy.
He didnt care what people thought, he just did want he thought was right.

Rest in Peace, Mr Steinbrenner -
the people of Tampa Bay will miss you !!

George you got what you wanted last year a world series title. You were the greatest owner a fan could possibly have in a sports team.

George wasn't like the rest of the cheap owners who didn't invest it's profits back into the team.

RIP George

like him or not, it is refreshing as a sports fan to see an owner who will do whatever it takes to make the team a winner. RIP George
