Harry Reid: Republicans Want Economy To Tank So Democrats Will Be Battered In Midterms

Reid

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said on Wednesday that Republicans want the economy to tank and hope jobs legislation fails so that Democrats will lose the midterm elections.

"They're betting on failure," Reid said of Republicans at a press conference Wednesday focused on measures to help small businesses. "They think that the worse the economy is come November, the better they are going to do election-wise."

Reid says the Republican approach "was indicated very loudly in the health care bill when one Republican Senator said that he wanted this to be Obama's Waterloo -- another Senator said he hoped somebody died during the night so that we couldn't get our 60 votes."

Whether the small business jobs bill passes is in the hands of the Republican party, said Reid, and so far negotiations have been strained.

"We are not getting a lot of cooperation," said Reid. "I had a conversation on the floor this morning with Senator McConnell and I hope they are willing to support us. The initial amendments they've got have nothing to do with small business."

Senator Reid, don't whisper. Shout it out loud, show the fire in your belly.
07:33 PM on 07/15/2010
If he shouted, no one could hear him, cause he is a wimp.

We realize you are angry and frustrated about your life but repeating the same meaningless pointless insults just makes you look foolish and uneducated. Wimp is a word used by my 7 year old, but not my 13 year old. You use it regularly without context, like my 7 year old, like you think you are funny. Are you old enough to understand any of the concepts being discussed here? I wonder, how old are you?

Keep talking Harry. Loud & Clear!

He's mild mannered, but tough as nails and as clever as a fox. He is an ex boxer, for your information, hardly a wimp. As my senator, he has done a fine enough job here in Nevada, unlike most Senators in our country. Your attacks are very childish and immature. How old are you? Can you form constructive criticism, or do you only, so far in your life, know how to make inappropriate comments that you seem to think are funny?
Please explain how a man who can thwart the best efforts to derail reform by Republican obstructionists can be thought of as wimpy? Some of the Republican senators are doThere are so many other accurate things to say about him, but calling an ex boxer a wimp makes you look foolish, immature, and not yet educated, put simpler, ignorant. Doing so using an anonymous user name makes you appear to be a coward as well.

Why do Republicans hate America so much?
04:01 PM on 07/15/2010
Harry Reid is right. The GOP spent their time in the Catbird Seat driving this country into a Wall (St) and have NO ideas as to how to clean up the mes they created, except to give us more of the same crap that got us where we are now.

With his approval numbers hitting new lows it’s no surprise that Barack Obama’s numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46.

You may be right, and Obama will get a poll break after the dems are swept out of office in November. Same situation saved Clinton's presidency.

Actually, Obama's numbers have been nearly identical to Reagan's at every corresponding point in their presidencies.

Sure the Republicans want the economy to "tank" so they can claim (falsely) that it was Obama and the Democrats fault and It's all for political gain. These sleazebags should be removed from office before they do to this country what they did before. Next time, we may not be able to recover. Wake up Americans and send them home.

It takes more than 18 months to recover from the 2nd Republican Great Depression. It's not helping that there is no cooperation from the GOP.

Stabilized, is more like it. Whether this trough is lower than it would have been otherwise, or lower than necessary, is something that is very difficult to know one way or the other.

Oh politicians will be going home all right, Dem congress first, then Barack, but don't worry the GOP will blow it. Man I miss Reagan.

The surge as we call it here, was an ethnic war there. We pulled our troops into the green zone and around the oil wells and paid off the waring factions to not attack us. The surge was a failure. Iraq splintered into three ethnic zones anyway. No one who understands the surge/ethnic war calls it a success anymore.
We lost the war. The oil companies wanted one entity to contract with and wanted the major piece of the profit. It didn't work. We will have to sit there with dozens of bases now till the oil runs out, and the Iraqis will never settle for a permanent occupation, so the violence will not end till we pull out. The deep discounts expected by the oil companies will never be realized.
A win would have been one stable authority in Iraq, one set of contracts for their oil, and Iraq able to police itself and prevent attacks against us or the oil companies. The oil companies are highly disappointed and we are in debt for decades to come. That is a loss/loss and we don't even use the oil produced by Iraq. But you don't own oil stocks or seem to care about the costs in life and taxpayer money, or you wouldn't repeat such rubbish.

Harry forgets so fast, when he wished for failure in Iraq.

“We’re going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war,” Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) told reporters yesterday. “Senator Schumer has shown me numbers that are compelling and astounding.”
Reid was referring to Charles E. Schumer of New York, the Senate Democrats’ campaign chief. “You look at the polling numbers of Republican senators, and the war in Iraq is a lead weight attached to their ankles. They know that,” Schumer said.

That quote has nothing to do with wishing for failure. It was a prediction based upon available evidence.

Actually no. The difference between the Conservatives during Obama's presidency and Liberals during Bush's presidency is crystal clear.
Conservatives want Obama to fail. They pray for it. They will flat out admit it proudly. Never once considering that if the president fails then America fails. It's actually rather anti-patriotic.
Liberals (and pretty much everybody else) didn't want Bush to fail. They wanted him to stop failing because Bush never succeeded at anything thing in his life. He has failed at everything he's ever put his hand to and left it worse off than it was when he came to it. They prayed for him to stop failing. They suggested alternatives. They threw ideas to fix things at anyone who would listen. And conservatives mocked them for it.

Because he's only actually had that power for 3 years. Despite wining the 2006 elections, Democrats didn't actually take control of congress till 2007 when the new terms started. Republicans had control over congress from 1995-2006. Look how well that did.
