Michel Nischan, Chef, Brings Farmers Markets To Families On Food Stamps

When his son was diagnosed with diabetes, Chef Michel Nischan quickly became aware of the connection between health and the affordability of nutritious food. Nischan was able to afford to care for his son -- but others, he realized, were not.

Nischan founded Wholesome Wave, a nonprofit organization that brings fresh, local food to inner city communities. The organization accepts food stamps, and lets families get double their money's worth of food when they use them. This provides an economic incentive for families to eat healthy.
