Proposed GOP Deficit Increase Too Heavy For Maddow's Wall (VIDEO)

What may have appeared to be "technical difficulties" on "The Rachel Maddow Show" Wednesday night actually helped drive home Maddow's point: the GOP's proposed additions to the existing $1 trillion federal deficit are just too heavy.

Maddow demonstrated the effect of proposed Republican tax cuts using red boards, each representing a different component of additional deficit. But the boards, representing a proposed total deficit increase of $3.5 trillion, didn't stick to the wall.

"I knew that was going to happen!" Maddow exclaimed. "See, our wall is slightly less magic."

Maddow continued her live show with poise, laughing at the blunder and calling on a staffer named Rich for help. Rich held the boards in place while Maddow finished the segment.

"Right now, our deficit is about $1 trillion," Maddow said. "And Republicans are proposing to add about $3.5 trillion more to it." Maddow and Rich high-fived on air after successfully finishing the segment. Maddow then spoke via video to Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH).

"Whenever things fail visibly on television, I enjoy myself," she said to Brown. "Let me ask, though, if there is something I'm missing — besides good double-stick tape."
