13 Great Books For Gay Teens (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 7/19/10   Updated: 5/25/11

A few weeks ago, we got some heartening news: books written for and about gay teens have exploded in popularity in recent years. Though many of these books continue to be banned at schools and libraries for "offensive content," it is becoming more and more commonplace, acceptable, and even expected for young adult authors to explore issues of teen homosexuality, and to create fictional role models for kids who are feeling lost, confused, or confident and happy.

The following 13 books are just some of the great books out there today for and about LGBT teens -- most are new, some are classics, but all are worth a read. Let us know if you have any favorites to add to the list.

"The Arizona Kid," Ron Koertege

A straight teen visits his gay uncle at his ranch in Arizona, and becomes involved in his first sexual relationship as he develops his own masculinity.

From Publisher's Weekly: "Koertge ... has written an entertaining book that advocates safe, responsible sex. The language is frank and the tone, irreverent one moment and earnest the next, has great appeal."
