Club Monaco Mannequins EMACIATED, Collarbones And Spines Show (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/19/2010 7:41 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 5:05 pm

It looks like the mannequins at Club Monaco could use a good meal! Journalist Stephanie Marcus first came across the plastic-and-bones window models on 87th and Broadway in NYC, prompting us to stop by our local Club Monaco to see what we could find. The result? Collarbones, shoulder blades and spines, oh my! Take a look and tell us if the emaciated mannequins affect your desire to shop at the store.

I thought that the "waif" look (and it's evil twin, "herion chic") was long dead-and-gone?
Obviously not.
Too bad, really. Thing is that most "designer clothing" is constructed to fit on the bodies of runway models (who look like young boys) by a bunch of creepy old men (who are secretly pederasts looking for their next catamite), and priced so only the rich and gullible can afford them (even though they fall apart within a year).

Scary--and sad, to boot!

I thought a little "rib" showing was healthy. At correct BMI, a person shows a certain amount of bone.
04:23 PM on 08/17/2010
Not necessarily. And having the spine showing is definitely not a healthy thing.

wha? this is news?

looks like what i see all the time actually...girls who are perfectly healthy and happy can look like that, geesh.

What's next - skeletons? Might as well. I'm offended by this, not just for myself as I'm a mature women but for younger girls who are inundated with this imagery ALL over the place. I can't even go to a market to buy food, without seeing negative imagery at the check-out counter filled with trash magazines and pointless headlines. (sort of like HP). But this time, at least HP is covering a legitimate concern - enough of the Kardasians, and big breasted women, and Lohan, and, let's see what else....too long a list to mention. Sad.

Um, I'm a size 10 and my collarbones look like that. My spine doesn't show, but my shoulder blades are visible....this is a really stupid article. I know women who look like these mannequins that are perfectly healthy!

Sorry hun, but being able to see every nodule of your spine is NOT healthy.

ditto. You can have prominate collar bones and such at several different weight, some healthy, some not so much, but having your spine show like that is definitely NOT healthy.

Nothing works better than an article concerning weight issues to bring out the snarky comments.

Audrey Hepburn was built like this, but she was one of a kind. How about something for everyone else?
03:17 AM on 08/02/2010
It's funny you say that, because Audrey Hepburn struggled with anorexia throughout her life.

For headless dummies, their bone structure looks astonishingly fine.

I'm still waiting for McDonald's and other fast food feeding troughs to show their consistently real customers and employees in their commercials.

Obviously this store caters to a specific body type for their clothing.

Are you folks nutz?
One doesn't have to be super thin for one bones to show.
I'm a guy just slightly under average weight and I have great collarbones.
One of my best features.

I think we have gotten used to see SO many overweight Americans, some folks have grown up, not knowing even what an average person looks like.

I have pretty much the same body type and I'm perfectly healthy. I get really annoyed when people a lot bigger than me tell me I need to eat more.
12:07 PM on 07/31/2010
I agree with you charles and I get really irritated when people call me "skinny". I'm not skinny, I am not skinny (145lbs at 5' 6") and my collarbones show. I'm just not FAT like the majority of the people in this country
10:03 AM on 07/23/2010
Yeah, this is awful. We need mannequins that represent today's "real" woman — you know, fat.
09:58 AM on 07/22/2010
Oh it's so scandalous, because as we all know, mannequins were so realistic before. Especially since most women I know have reticulating detachable arms legs and heads.

If you think the pictured mannequins are emaciated, then you clearly have not been hanging around with the right crowd, clearly these manny's need to lose a few pounds.

But I do commend the excellent realism of the heads
