Glenn Beck: I Might Be Going Blind

Glenn Beck said he has learned he could go blind within a year.

Speaking before a crowd of 6,000 on his "American Revival" tour in Salt Lake City on Saturday, the Fox News host tearfully told his audience that he had recently seen a doctor and received the grim news:

"A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor because of my eyes, I can't focus my eyes...he did all kinds of tests and he said, 'you have macular dystrophy ...you could go blind in the next year. Or, you might not.' I said, did you just charge me a thousand dollars for knowing what I knew my whole life?"

Beck didn't miss an opportunity to take a shot at health care reform, saying, to laughter and applause, that "I went to the best doctor I could find, while I could still go to the best doctor I can find."

Beck choked up again as he talked about the prospect of losing his sight, saying that even if he can deal with not being able to see his wife or children, because he already knows what they look like, he is scared about not being able to read -- especially, as he put it, because "I thought to myself in that time, 'I'm too darn lazy to learn Braille.'"

Macular dystrophy is a relatively rare genetic disorder that causes a progressive loss of vision.

well, someone tell sillyman that there are audiobooks­, books on tape, and a program called jaws that will help you navigate your computer. (i have blind friends.) not a fan of glenn beck, but i'd die if i couldn't read.

I remember being 10 years old, and two of my friends and I were constantly at odds with "Mindy" who was a chronic liar. After a three day stand off, leaving "Mindy" out in the cold friend wise, she came by our playhouse and started telling us how we'd all be sorry because she had cancer and was going to die. We all laughed our butts off.

G.B. reminds me of Mindy. Except Mindy, at 10, was MUCH more mature and sane.

if he actually goes blind, then it will surely be punishment from god and well deserved..­.

Glen Beck doesn't have to go blind! Maybe the medical community has no idea how to cure him but this nationally known nutrition expert has answers for him. I saw this video and I think everyone should watch it. It not only talks to Glenn Beck's problem but everyone who has a medical condition and can't find answers.

Many people in here are devoid of empathy and class. About 99% of you have expressed snarky comments about his possibly going blind. I can imagine how many posts had to be removed. I have many liberal friends who are embarrasse­d by many of the comments in here. My wish for all of you, is that you gain some knowledge and be seekers of truth. But these idiotic low class comments are on the dumber side of stupid. For those liberals who have comported themselves with class, good for you. For the rest of you, go look in the mirror, and see if you can find a better person. .

Better is perceptive as seen in the climate of our country right now. Is better someone who needs to be quiet because they offend you? Beck offends continuall­y, but you're not concerned about him spreading lies, misinforma­tion or offending we less than knowledgea­ble,low caste liberal minded citizens of the United States. 99% is an interestin­g observatio­n; and feeds into the distructiv­e thinking the beck perpetuate­s.

I don't buy it for a second, well, i did wonder how is he going to be able to look at the "hordes" of immigrants and tell them apart.
I think this is a huge scam, and his miraculous recovery will be touted by the loony nutjobs as a miracle and how it proves conservati­ve values and yadah yadah. Snake oil anyone?

I hope Glenn Beck does NOT go blind. I hope that at some point he is forced to see the damage he has created by inciting so much hatred in so many people, against the very same people who would feel bad for him if something bad happened to him, even though he could care less (except offer a quick "Gee, I'm reeeeeely saaaary", if something bad happened to someone who disagrees with him.

Glenn Beck is a sincere person whose only fault (IMO) is being overly passionate about his beliefs and perhaps needing a bit of attention. I understand he had a difficult boyhood.

I pray he finds a way to get help for his situation. God bless him. He's actually quite the hero to a lot of Americans. Pretty rare person in my book.

Beck -- you should have confessed to going blind before you had the gall to criticize Michelle Obama's "dress" (as you called it). If you could have seen it correctly, you would have seen that it was in a good taste, not a dress but a "top".
