Miu Miu Dress On Three July Magazine Covers (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/19/2010 11:46 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 5:05 pm

In a real win-win-win for Miu Miu, a dress from the label's autumn-winter 2010/2011 ready-to-wear collection was featured on three magazine covers, the Guardian UK points out. Lily Allen dons the runway look on the July front of UK Elle, Eva Mendes wears the tangerine version on W magazine and Freja Beha Erichsen models the same one on the cover of British Vogue.

This type of situation is certainly rare. Elle editor Lorraine Candy told the Guardian, "Usually press offices are pretty good at making sure we don't get the same dress as our rivals." She played off the matchy-matchy-matchy mistake like it was no big deal. She remarked, "You have to take these things in your stride," but, "obviously I'd rather it wasn't on a major rival."

The dress in question costs between $2,300 and $5,000.

The dress has a lot of above-the-neck detailing, so it makes sense this would end up on so many covers.

Business models and fashion doesn't work and is quite risky. See the documentary The Red Carpet Issue. Unfortunately the two must be intertwined for fashion to survive. I dislike the concept of celebrities being on the cover of fashion magazines especially when in their regular day to day lives these celebrities are homely and frumpy but it sells so the Kool-Aid is guzzled.

I like the Elle cover best. But, I don't like the way the editor blatantly called the other mags rivals. Even if it's true, it comes across a bit snobby. Can't we all just get along? :) At least it was in 3 different colors.

But they are marketplace rivals. What's wrong with that?

Beautiful dress.

Looks like the same model on the Elle and Vogue covers. Those editors make a fortune to, among other things, make sure something like this never happens. I'm available!

The person on the cover of Elle is Lily Allen, she's a singer not a model. I can't really see the resemblance myself!
