Dennis Hopper Estate

LOS ANGELES — Dennis Hopper's sprawling estate in Venice, Calif., is going on sale this Friday for about $6.2 million.

The property, where Hopper lived for more than 20 years, is located a few blocks from the Pacific and spans 15,550 square feet over five land parcels.

It is comprised of several structures, including the late actor's 4,900 square-foot corrugated-steel house designed by architect Brian Murphy and three townhouses designed by Frank Gehry that Hopper used as office space and family residences.

Listing agent Jane Gavens of Coldwell Banker Previews says buyers also have the option to separately purchase the main residence, which was designed to be a showcase for the actor's art and photography.

The "Easy Rider" star died May 29 at age 74 after battling cancer.

I've been in and out of that property. It is butt ugly! Looks like a giant trashcan! One of the times I was there shots broke out less than a block away. It's a horrendous neighborhood. Interesting on the inside, but even that doesn't change the fact that you're surrounded by filth and gangs. No thanks. I'll keep my millions ;) haha.

That's a really big piece of property for Venice. Wow.

If the greedy heirs could sit on this until the recession is over, they'd probably see twice as much profit, but fat chance of that happening.

The recession is not projected to let up until 2021 as of the most recent estimates this week, but if that was my fathers property I would stay there. Frank Gehry & Brian Murphy does'nt do it for them I guess, lol. The thing is the estate is so large, and with all the interfamily personality conflicts a sell is probably the best action.

Dennis Hopper multimillionaire. Wow what a rebel. Everybody is gripping about Mel Gibson's rant and slugfest with his girlfriend. How about ceasing the canonization of a far lesser actor and director who punched out his share of women.

Far lesser actor? I don't think so. Just more interested in art and less interested in manipulating the general public.

No need to come in and tap dance all over a dead man. Being a millionaire does not automatically disqualify you from being a rebel Johnny. If you can't get into a Dennis Hopper film or performance then I say sad for you. What exactly have you done anyways? What's your legacy? No man is perfect or without his conflicts.

A few years ago I attended a holiday party in the main residence (hosted by Hopper's then-wife Victoria); it is starkly beautiful and open, and an amazing amount of space to find in Venice.

You know you've got enough money when you can hire Frank Gehry to design your townhouses.

Now THAT would be a cool estate!

The kids and especially the wife are all gold diggers.

They're inviting the vultures to descend? Is the body even cold yet?

If I'm not mistaken, the family was accusing the wife of being a gold digger. Perhaps the family wanted the competition out of the way.

Without his income, it would be difficult to keep paying the expense of owning so much property in Venice.

The property taxes and maintenance alone would cripple these deadbeat children of his. I doubt any of them are gainfully employed, and $6.2 divided by many is not as much as it sounds even for the most frugal individuals. They simply just can't continue the mans lifestyle, there's not enough revenue.

I wonder how much his art will end up being worth? We might both be wrong.

good point, yeah.. it seems like he's been deceased for like 10 days and his life's work get dismantled - I guess this speaks to his ability to plan and get tricked by these users
