Jane Norton Hits Ken Buck For 'High Heels' Crack (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/22/10 12:22 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:10 PM ET

It didn't take long for Jane Norton to hit her Senate primary opponent, Ken Buck, for a gaffe made last weekend. Less than a day after video surfaced of Buck joking to a conservative crowd that they should vote for him because "he does not wear high heels," the Norton campaign released a web ad slamming Buck's "attacks" on Norton.

Buck made the comment last weekend in response to a recently-released Norton ad that called Buck's manhood into question for accepting support from 527's and other independent political organizations. "She questioned my manhood, I think it's fair to respond," Buck quipped to crowd immediately after his "high heels" statement.

The Buck campaign released a statement last night dismissing Norton's attacks as a "desperate smear."

Well, Jane, you've been gender baiting for months now, and I guess you finally got what you wanted. I sure hope you're proud of yourself.

gender baiting? so jane shouldn't run because she's not a man?

I have no problem with her being a woman. I have a big problem with her making a big deal out of being a woman and in the process reducing this race into one of identity politics. A real candidate runs on his or her positions on the issues instead of race, religion, gender, etc.

So according Jane it's alright for her to mock Ken's lack of manhood, but it's not alright for Ken to mock Jane's womanhood. They are both a pathetic and disgusting.

that was only Jane's response to Buck's comment. i agree. someone asked why they should vote for him, and Buck said it's because he doesn't wear high heals. that doesn't sound very manly to me, sounds more like he's simply trying to throw Jane under the bus.

Be honest. If you were running against her, and she was known for exchanges like this one:

" And just last week in an interview with Independence Institute president Jon Caldara, when Norton was asked what the difference is between her and Buck, she said, "Well I am a girl, first."

"Is being a girl important?" Caldara asked.

"No, it isn't," she said. "I was trying to be funny." "

Wouldn't you be tempted to respond with a gender joke, too?

Good. Let them rip each other to shreds.
