Obama Gulf Coast Vacation: First Family To Visit Florida In August

Guess Obama is listening to his critics: The President and his family will travel to Florida's Gulf Coast on Saturday, August 14th for the weekend, according to the White House.

Since the Gulf oil leak began, Obama has made four trips to the Gulf Coast, including a visit last month to Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, according to CBS News.

Michelle Obama will be in the region for her second time on Friday. The family is walking the talk: the Obamas have repeatedly encouraged Americans to visit the Gulf despite the spill.

This family is always on vacations. I have been on vacation once in two years. I thought we suppose to really pitch-in and trying really hard survive in this bad economy. But, the leader is always on his vacation. I just don't understand. What's about those who lose their home. I thought all those buy out going to help out the homeowner. It is a joke. Ten of thousands have lost their homes and ten of thousands more will be loosing their homes.

It's pretty simple if the President travels and visits Louisiana anytime soon, it will draw attention to all the failures of the White House to control British Petroleum, when instead British Petroleum has been controlling the message, and the so-called post-disaster recovery. There is not much of recovery, and the funds have not been deposited into any account for payment to the victims. As if that's a big surprise. This is certainly an Emanuel strategy, shame on him!

I think his main reason for going to Florida is he is friendly with Crist. He hates Jindal, Barbour and Riley. Florida is better vacation destination anyway. I seriously doubt he wants to go out on Bourbon Street but rather spend some time at the beach.

President Obama has not "failed" to return to Louisiana. Vice President Biden visited New Orleans since President Obama's visit; Admiral Allen is overseeing this disaster as well. There are other "disasters" this Country is facing and each one is being worked on daily.

Amazing that people keep referring to a weekend trip as a "vacation." (Does anybody here call his or her weekend a "vacation"?) Even more amazing when you consider that the president will probably be meeting with state and local officials and Coast Guard folks etc., delivering his Saturday address to the nation, and on call immediately for any national crisis that might arise. I'm fairly certain that he would much rather not climb in the chopper, then in the plane, then do it all over 48 hours later. My guess is that if he wanted an easy weekend, he'd much rather get in a round of golf Saturday afternoon then kick back with a movie and a few beers, and sleep late on Sunday at the WH. But he's the president, and the Gulf is in a crisis, and so he goes down there for the fifth time since the well blew, and I can absolutely guarantee you that people in the business of serving tourists along the Gulf Coast will be very glad to see him there.

He seems [from the outside here] to have this President Toggle Switch - that no matter where, no matter what, he is - "on" or "off" for his family. President Dad. 100% from both sides of the man.

And, I agree that businesses will be very glad to see the First Family there - even if the traffic gets snarly. Security is always a priority, after all.

It doesn't really matter, I don't believe, where they vacation/still-working [Dad/President] - the Dad/Family time is the point and the blessing.

I have no problem with the trip to the Gulf, but why not Louisiana where the destruction is much worse to the environment, and to the economy, an entire industry may now disappear from the Gulf thanks to British Petroleum. The bigger problem the choice of Florida over Louisiana. The Obama administration's 2010 version of Bush's Katrina, now in the reverse, 2005 Republican President with a Democratic Governor, 2010 Democratic President with a Republican Governor.

Lip service, 2010 Obama style. Choosing Florida over Louisiana is an insult to the hardworking suffering people of the energy coast and America's wetlands.

Well, Max, if you're trying to promote the tourist industry, which is at least part of what this trip is about, you go to a tourist destination. I don't know where you're from, but I'm from Louisiana, and where we always went for beach vacations was Florida or Alabama or Mississippi. The reason for this is that Louisiana has almost no beaches, and the few it does have wouldn't make a patch on those a little to the east. Grand Isle is I guess about the main one, but unless you're a big charter-boat fishing fan, Grand Isle is not anyone's idea of an island paradise. Holly Beach is another, but Rita pretty well wiped it out, and it wasn't any postcard to begin with. Fourchon? Maybe for a picnic. Some nice sand on some of the barrier islands, but there's nothing else there and they're always being washed away (if your map's five years old, you're out of date). I wish it were otherwise. If Louisiana had gorgeous beaches like the Florida Panhandle, maybe even our politicians wouldn't be able to steal quite all the money. But we don't.

I am glad that everyone in here complaining about the President having a weekend with his family (where, no doubt, he will still be working) works 7 days a week and never takes a break from their stressful jobs.
