Rockford Theater: North Dakota Town Rallies Together To Save Historic Treasure

Townspeople in Langdon, North Dakota have something to be proud of. They have worked hard to raise $60,000 in order to keep the lights on at the town's 80-year-old movie theater. At one point, the threat that this historic monument would be shut down was real. Residents in the small town banded together to save the theater, and uphold a longstanding local tradition.

The Roxy Theater is now run as a nonprofit and staffed by volunteers. The most important priority for Langdon community members is that they have a safe, welcoming environment for children and families.

In North Dakota, there are 19 towns that run their own nonprofit theaters, and during tough economic times, the hope is that these theaters continue to stay open.
