wow,

I realize that many live in the city.

my rules are
1) make a menu plan weekly, give yourself some wiggle room for what main course on what day

2) buy 1x per week
3) stick with the plan
4) pull all of the packaging off of the "processed food" and recycle all of you can.

the 2 of us fill a 12 gallon trash bag once a week because we recycle EVERYTHING we can.

My wife and I, during the summer have a small garden. we grow veggies, what we do not use, we dry or freeze for personal use. what we cannot use we judicually(excuse spelling) give away.

All year round, all of the veggie scraps, coffee grounds etc,,,, no meat, no fat of any kind go into
the composters,

we live in the desert, and have a healthy, generous garden

to everyone n the city, find a way to build a garden,,,,,,,,, anywhere,,,,,,, everywhere----------

By growing our own food and harvesting as we need, we have much less food waste than we would from frequent shopping. Do you want carrots with dinner? Dig some up. It's true that we have feast and famine with certain seasons (e.g. tomato gluts), but we just indulge then in the produce, knowing that come January we'd give almost anything for a juicy, flavorful summer tomato. http://ozarkhomesteader.wordpress.com/2009/12/31/six-months-away-when-eating-in-season-means-no-fresh-tomatoes/

Very true! I also make marinara sauce and such and then can it. Which makes a quick meal on lazy nights really easy.
