If they are offering a deal, the case must be weak.If Rangel ask for a deal that means they got him.

Please Charlie, stick to your principles and demand a fair hearing. Your trail appearing live on TV in September will create wonderful campaign material for the November elections.

The senior Dem leadership wants him to make a deal to save their skins, not his.

This is the greatest story ever. Rangel replaced Adam Clayton Powell, who was the subject of an ethics investigation for financial improprieties. Powell's wife fled the country due to her involvement. Powell was removed from the House after the investigation, and the savvy Harlem voters decided to return him to office as a reward for his bad deeds. Powell had problems due to a Bimini Island resort retreat.

Now Rangel is under investigation and could be removed from office due to financial and ethical failures. Rangel failed to report his assets properly, including a Dominican Island resort retreat and file accurate tax returns. Add to that using rent controlled apts for business offices and you have trouble. (Will the voters of Harlem return him to office just like Powell?)

Finally, guess who is running against Rangel? It is none other than Adam Clayton Powell IV, the grandson of the disgraced Representative, Would that not be the definition of IRONY.

Sarah made a deal; Charlie should too.

This man is a REAL war hero.. A bronze star and a purple heart in the Korean war. He was part of a unit that rescued over 40 soldiers.

What a shame, (if found guilty) he will only be remembered as just another political crook.....

US Grant was one of the worst presidents we ever had. It took 100 years for that reputation to die down, and for him to be remembered as the guy who won the Civil War. This is the only reason that I am willing to put Reagan's picture on the $50. That way, we would be trading one bad Republican for another.

During the Korean War, he was a member of the all-black 503rd Field Artillery Battalion in the 2nd Infantry Division. In late November 1950, this unit was caught up in heavy fighting in North Korea as part of the U.N. forces retreat from the Yalu River. In the Battle of Kunu-ri, Rangel was part of a vehicle column that was trapped and attacked by the Chinese Army. In the subzero cold, Rangel was injured by shrapnel from a Chinese shell. Some U.S. soldiers were being taken prisoner, but others looked to Rangel, who though only a private first class had a reputation for leadership in the unit. Rangel led some 40 men from his unit, during three days of freezing weather, out of the Chinese encirclement; nearly half of the battalion was killed in the overall battle. Rangel was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds and the Bronze Star with Valor for his actions in the face of death.

Charlie, I know you understand the meaning of the word, sacrifice.

You have a rich, full life and you are 80 years old. Don't end your career acting like a fool.

Retire now.

That is not really commensurate with what he did. He shouldn't have more severe penalties than other people. you are just trying to burn him because he is a black Dem and you are the opposite.

I no, I am just so pissed that these people that have the world at their feet feel like they need
to ....like a fox in the hen house steal more and more, what is this about. My comment
above is just out of line,I would say that about all the political leaders that get caught stealing
from the public and breaking there vows to be there for us...Not them selves.Like any theif
what he was caught doing is little compared with what they probably got away with.
I am just pissed, this is not a new guy,I know the repugs have no morels at all, none of them.
The political atmosphere sucks at a time when so many people are hurting.I am a dem.

With his fellow Dems urging for a deal, that pretty much says 'GUILTY.' I hope the committee denies an opportunity since he was already given that chance and he said "no." Rangel is on record with interviews stating he's "looking forward" to clearing his name. So, let him have his day so we all can see if he's telling the truth. Hope no one is holding their breath.

Whatta puke this guy is. Rangel has been there for so long, thinks he can say it and it is so.
Dem or GOP, that long in the role, you are pompous and think you can do what you want....Not a party issue, is a congress issue.

1 question.
If he is found guilty and expelled from the House, does he lose his pension?

If he does, let him fight so he (hopefully) loses it.

are you kidding 40 years and you think they take his pension, their not even going to get rid of him, he will win in a landslide this is black NY your talking about, they love the guy.
06:43 PM on 07/26/2010
The Federal Pension Forfeiture Act could take away Rangel's pension if he was found to have bribed public officials or witnesses, conspired to commit an offense or defraud the government, committed perjury while denying conspiracy or bribery or committing subornation of perjury.

He should resign, Dems should pressure him to leave.
But they will not. They never do.

Maiking it sound like Dems won't pressure him, both parties do the same thing, they keep their distance, but never pressure them. Dems (by and large) won't do it Rangel, didn't with Jefferson, and the republcians are the same way with Vitter, or whoever is the next investigaed.

I fail to see where making a deal when it comes to ethics makes any sense. As for going after Representative Rangel on ethics violations, I don't see why we would do that and still not levy any charges against those politicians who committed illegal acts to send us into an illegal war.

I think Mr. Rangle should have a right to answer the charges. If he is found not to have committed the violation, well, fine. If he is found to have acted inappropriately, he should step down from his Senate seat. I do not think any "deal making" is the right thing to do, nor does is speak well for the Democratic party. He should not be allowed to make deals, be excused if guilty, or treated in any special manner. Sorry, Dems, don't cut deals with this because it will bite you in the butt if you do.
07:13 PM on 07/26/2010
